The Civ VI Q&A happened last night with the lead designers.

Heres a simple breakdown of the uniques.

Unique Ability - as usual, this is the civ's unique ability that spans throughout time. China for example, has 1 extra charge for their Builder unit.

Leader Unique - Leaders now have their own unique based on the leader's timezone and flavour. For example, Emperor Qin has the ability to use his Builder's charges to rush Ancient and Classical wonders. But Teddy Roosevelt has the Rough Rider UU.

Unique Unit - Same as usual. America has the P-51 Mustang for example.

Unique Infrastructure - Buildings, districts, etc. China seems to be getting the Great Wall, buildable on border tiles.

So basically, Teddy Roosevelt gets a UA, 2 UUs, and UI.
Qin gets 2 UAs, a UU, and a UI.

Ok, in other words:

Each CIV has: 1 UA, 1 UU, 1 UB/UI/UD Which is very similar to Civ5
Each Leader has: 1 Extra Unique (any type) + Agenda

In total, when compared against Civ V, we have 1 extra Unique and Agendas, which is of course fantastic news.

For mod teams, though, this means a higher burden / civ.
Unless of course modding in Civ 6 is much easier.

At least it'll (hopefully) mean slower and arguably healthier development with more thought and quality involved rather than cranking out buggy or badly designed civs because of having a hunch to do so (I'm guilty of inciting the creation of a dozen or so of such hastily done civs, although every time JFD turned them into something that worked well). I'd much rather take my time with artwork as well this time around, to make it better and more memorable. A lot of my artwork for Civ 5 mods is assembly line quality and I'd prefer to change that.

We'll have at least 5 or 6 years to build all that stuff before Civ 7 anyway. :p

Well, at least before we know that Agendas are hardcoded and new ones can't be created :p

Inb4 Sukritact creates E&D. Inb4 JFD makes 50 million things for which to add support.

My hasty civs are always those for which a design comes easily, or came long before art was completed. I always ensure that I am content with the quality of the design - that is, that it fits my style (that the civ gives some direction for you to play in), that it reflects the civ well, etc. - before release. Hence why Innocent, Akhenaten, and a handful of others take so much longer than the rest. Bugginess more often than not derives from either some kind of mod conflict or some kind of scenario that the author did not account for. I'll be taking the same approach to Civ VI. Although it is meme-worthy to say I'll release a civ on day -9 of civ VI's release, this won't be the case unless I've come up with a design that doesn't simply serve that purpose. And obviously I'll have to figure my way around the new game first. *Firaxis gib modders a head start plox*

Well, no one that has ever seen your artwork believes that :p Or, that is some high quality assembly line :D

Petition to JFD - don't make things that need compats.

Thanks!
