Have to say I consider SoC a mediocre entry level boardgame 1 step above Risk but if this is successful others will no doubt follow.

Catan is rubbish as a 2 player. But its better with 3 or more IMO

Even with three players, it's heavily dice-based and you can often see who's winning a mile off.

This is very true. Its worse when its 2 players though. At least when theres 3 players the option is there to gang up on the one who is winning (as much as you can gang up).
