G-Major 20

I put my governor on Great People and Science.. he still made Engineers and Priests. Checking all the cities and changing the new specialists to scientists is the most tiresome aspect of this game

I believe you can go into your F1 screen and click the specialist tab and modify/check them that way.

Was the 40 points for just 1 pop, or was it for the 1 pop and any specialist from the new city?

Good question, I didn't think to look at that, just take a moment to check...

Yes, I guess I had built the Statue of Liberty (while I was doing the game I just chose whatever builds would take longest so I wouldn't be bothered :) ).

So, in a Duel map on the Great Plains it seems that every population point counts as 20, and a free specialist does count as a population point. Hmm let me double check..

I just redid it, but conquered the last AI city instead of founding a new city. It had a size of 4, including the specialists, and the difference in score was 81. Not quite the predicted 80, but close enough.

Unfortunately, I tried it twice and got a conquest victory instead of a Time Victory both times. I can't quite figure out what is happening, but in my Gauntlet game I am going to leave one city unconquered, just in case.

I"m not certain how the population score is figured, in my current game I have at present (year 1912) 1666/1482 for the population score. I'm sure it's less than 20 per population. I would guess it is scaled for map size at least, and the game comes up with a calculated maximum, that you can exceed so get more than 100% of the score. As when you get future techs your score also goes over 100% for the tech score.

Yes, I do do that, but even that is slow when you have 10 cities or more increasing in population each turn. Sometimes I found it best to go though the log to find each city that increased in population. But I would always have to go through each city manually occasionally to get the few I would miss.

I have.. hmm is there anyway to see how many cities you have without counting them? ... I have 80 cities at the moment, and am still looking for places I can settle more that won't increase my land score. Just found a single square island that I had forgotten about, one tundra square. Good place for a city which will grow to over 25 by the end of the game.

As time goes by, I notice my Great Scientists get more and more beakers if they bulb. Does anyone know what causes this? Time? Amount of research? Is it possible to get one GS good enough to discover a Future Tech by himself?

It's based on total number of citizens I believe.

200 Turns to go

Future Tech 134 plus 4 GS's so should get at least 336.

Just gave up my first city... Land is at 55

100 turns to go. Only 8 tiles to play with before hitting domination, I may have to give my Island city away to Saladin. Only on future tech 49.

I went back and checked my save file. Apparently for all the settler spamming I did, I didn't get any benefit on land. I think I gained an extra 80 points  I guess I got 1 point per city center tile? Either way, it appears settler spamming isn't worth the trouble at the end (marginal return for the large amount of time it takes).

I've started to play again. I got an easier map this time - my continent is just a tad over the domination threshold. I shouldn't have to gift away any cities but I don't know if the AI is going to ever hit the techs that I skipped  Mansa is the most advanced (this is turn 350/750) around the early 1700's and he's still at... banking? The other AI were all isolated so they had terrible tech rates. I of course killed everyone on my starting continent :mischief: I don't know if I'm going to get 400 FT though. At the current rate, I'm probably looking more in the ball park of 350-370. Unless I can magically spawn 40 GS

Cabert, can't you give a city away to one of the AIs? I have had to do this twice so far in my game.

I have a sort of similar problem though, when I declare war on everyone near the last turn, I need to make sure that Roosevelt doesn't nip in and grab a city, and I may even have to watch that no-one takes Roosevelts only city which could push my border out a bit more. I think I am 20 tiles under the limit at present, but I just built a city on a 1 tile thin island.

It may be possible, but I can't gift anything to my vassals, and I'm at war with the rest of the world:mischief: .
I'll try to gift away 2 cities for peace. I'm sure afraid of those riflemen:lol: .

Settler spamming will only give a reward of how much extra pop you get, because it takes 20 turns of owning a specific land tile to get the extra score.

And I hope I'll be able to finish this, it's taking ages and my power supply needs to be sent back to the manufacturer because it has a conflict with my new graphics card, and I have a heap of homework I need to do.

I think (not 100% sure but it seemed to work) that putting emphasize on (food+commerce+science) will make the governor work all food and commerce tiles, then assign scientists.
If you don't put emphasize on commerce, the science button doesn't seem to work.

I'm in my second and last attempt.
It takes a lot of time, and i'm aware to not repeat the mistakes i made in my previous one.
Probably the bigger(s) was to give away cities with both corps in and completely structured. This way the AI gained an advantage that could not be possible, and this was prolly the reason he teched so fast.
So, i was better than my 1st attempt until the half of the game, but probably i waited too much to expand and i'm teching slower than the previous game.
The good side is that i got all the wonders, and i'm sure (reasonably) that i'll don't hit the dom limit and that no one can even arrive to the end of the tech path.
I began with a warrior rush, wiping Lincoln with stone + 1 worker and Vicky, with marble + 1 worker + Buddha holy.

70 turns to go. Only 2 tiles away from dom limit now, but I am still not at war with Saladin so I can gift him my Island city (next dor to one of his own).

Future tech 70 being researched. I reckon I'll only mange 105 or so. 12000 pts.

Declared on Hannibal and his vassal Brennus because he had destroyers and oil, so am fighting a war in which I try and kill as many of his troops as possible without taking any cities, preparing for the last turn.

If you move a tank through an unoccupied city you take it! Didn't realise that, had to get a cease fire, give the city away, and then declare war again ;)

Saladin has built Apollo, I can't see him teching to fusion though.

200 Future Tech, 3 percent below Domination, 135 turns left. I think I got a solid second, trying to do my best to make shyuhe work for first. Slow now as I am wiping out AI units without taking cities. Also pillaging everything but farms and windmills.

I have enough Scientists saved for 5 techs, so should get at least 340 Future Techs. Still trying to get a final Great Priest so I can get the 7th holy shrine built.

Edit: Yay! Got my Great Priest, so all Seven Holy Shrines! Now 1992

another domination win for me :(.
I won't try it again, this is getting at my nerves.

Oh no, sorry about that. I'm less than 50 turns from the end, had to quit for the night. Getting a Domination win is my nightmare. Sorry the nightmare became real for you.

125 turns left, on FT 100 or so and getting them every 1 to 2 turns now. I've just gone through and wiped down Ramses again (all roads and non-food improvements, and any units I could find), now I have to prep to hit Charlemagne at the end. He just teched Democracy and is close to Military Tradition, but if I can avoid hammering him early I will because I'm getting three rice from him that are helping my Cereal Mills cities (my capital seems to have stabilized at 39pop). Oh, and 57% land, 3% and I trip off too, but I think my borders are pretty stable. This is definitely my one and only shot at this Major, though.

and @cabert: If it's any consolation, I think we've all tripped a Domination win while going for a Time win at some point or another.

well, it's no consolation at all for being dumb.
I've already played for time victory starting from ancient, but not on epic speed!
If I get time to play again, I'll keep a larger margin and won't accept any vassal.
