While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Conquest (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Emperor
 • Starting Era: Ancient
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Archipelago
 • Speed: Normal
 • Civ: Aztec
 • Opponents: Must include America (Washington), China (Qin Shi Huang), England (Elizabeth), Inca (Huayna Capac), Mali (Mansa Musa), Russia (Catherine)
 • Version: 1.74.003
 • Date: 25th March 2009 to 25th April 2009
Must not play as Inca.
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Montezuma and the Accountant Wars

Montezuma has no need for accountants, unless their skulls are to adorn his extravagant headress. Your job is to ensure that the world is rid of these pesky bean counters.

The idea behind this gauntlet is that on an archipelago map, all the financial civs receive 3 gold for every sea square, giving them a big advantage against poor old Monty. It came from a SG I was in years ago. As the lastest G-Minor is BtS only, this is Vanilla only (just like the SG), so dust off those old disks and prepare for the slaughter.

looks like a normal speed archipelago conquest game isn't at the top of peoples priority list >.<

Or is it the vanilla aspect? (I know for myself I haven't touched a vanilla game since BTS came out)

I'll give this a go but I'm currently busy with GMaj47, and GMin69 is asking for another attempt as well.

I need a conquest victory at Emperor but I expect this game will be very difficult ;)

Yes yes, poor monty and his 2x speed whip cycles and access to amphibious with 2 promos have no hope . Let's have a pity party as we slaughter everything. EMO Monty! YES!

This is vanilla only so no UB and jags don't get free woodsman, just a bonus defending in jungle...

Is there a write up thread for the original SG?

Opponents: Must include...

Can we add more opponents, up to the HoF maximum (10) for a Standard-sized map? I'm thinking Monty might do better with a nearby warm-up slaught-- er, a close trading partner.

I believe you can add opponents up to the max as long as you have the mandatory ones as well.

I haven't played Vanilla in ages, but I'd probably try this on BTS (i.e. not as part of the Gauntlet).

OK, assuming I didn't mess up the setup, I think I've submitted a winning entry for this gauntlet. 1912 AD. I don't play archi military much, so this was a pretty good challenge for me. I didn't play very well, and ultimately a couple of AI's got to destroyers. This made amphibious wars a pita. Oh well, got it done... long play time on this one.
