While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Cultural (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Emperor
 • Starting Era: Ancient
 • Map Size: Huge
 • Map Type: Any
 • Speed: Epic
 • Civ: Rome
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: 1.74.004, 2.13.004 or 3.19.003
 • Date: 10th September to 10th October 2010
Must not play as Inca.

The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Probably have to pass this one due to being a huge map.

This one played pretty easily on Huge. There is plenty of room to rex peacefully and get good city sites. My cpu didn't bog down at all. I choose peaceful civs for a lovefest. There weren't any WHEOOHRN's all game. The game ended before large unit build ups bogged down my cpu.

Alright, I'll bite; what's a WHEOOHRN?

And, thanks for the cpu tip; I'll give this one a shot.

Alright, I'll bite; what's a WHEOOHRN?

It stands for "We have enough on our hands right now."

It is identified in Buffy as a fist icon on the scoreboard, by the traderoute symbol:)traderoute:).

It can be identified in game in the diplomacy screen. If I am talking to Mansa Musa, for example, he can usually be bribed to go to war with several civs. On his side, under the "Declare war on", he is willing to declare war on Ramesses, and Ramesses' name is white, not red:

Spoiler :

In the screenshot below, Ghenghis Khan gives me the WHEOOHRN for a war request:

Spoiler :

The significance of this is that the AI has gone into war prep mode. The AI starts a military build up and will go after someone if it is happy with the war build-up. Sometimes, they will not go to war. If you see someone at cautious or lower (and sometimes at pleased) with the WHEOOHRN, watch out!

Thanks shulec, for your thorough answer.

I have had a vague sense of unease regarding that 'fist'. Now, I can have an exact sense of unease (and options on how to handle it).

Even though I picked friendly AIs, there is war raging around me; I think this is a function of the roll on the map--five of us crammed on one continent, on a fractal map, with one lonely AI for the rest of the world. So much for a huge map.

Turn 218, 670 AD, 9 cities, slider at 50%, building the Sistine Chapel (built Parthenon, Statue of Zues (I trying a new strategy of building only wonders that give GA points so as not to dilute the gene pool).

We'll see...

Submitted 1877 AD. Ugh...won't be running that game again; huge maps are too big for my machine. The last hundred turns or so really really slowed down (10-11 seconds 'waiting for other civs' at the end).

I did learn something new though. The three culture cities 'build' culture, of course. But, I had the other cities 'building' wealth so I could run the culture slider higher. I think that's the way to do it. I believe if a city 'builds' culture it stays right there in that city, but if it 'builds' wealth then it goes through the slider (set on culture) and gets diffused through all the cities.

And, I will say this--praise, raises and extended leave go to my stone-faced musketmen for staring down the neighbors jet fighters, tanks and infantry.

The Three Culture Cities should be building Culture generating Buildings or Wonders and Culture Multiplying Buildings or Wonders. They should build Culture in the end game only if that will cause a Win a turn earlier than without the Culture. Built Culture is not multiplied by any Culture multipliers like Hermitage, Cathedrals (of any Religion), Free Speech, etc.

When there are no Culture generating or multiplying Buildings or Wonders (Great or National) to be built, Cultural Cities should build Wealth unless Building Culture will help Win a turn earlier as mentioned above.

All other Cities should build Wealth unless there's something more useful to build like Missionaries (to spread that Religion to some of your Cities) or Temples (if needed to unlock another Cathedral that a Culture City could utilize).

Building Wealth in Cities, usually in the end game, but also in the mid game, is a very effective way to maximize the Culture slider (which you want at 100% if possible -- sacrifice everything else to do this, except other things that help generate more Culture in your Three Culture Cities = if your not building Wealth in the end game, you're probably doing something wrong.)

Note that I've not mentioned anything about Great Artist Farms.

Please read jesusin's great Cultural Victory article:

Good luck everyone!

There is something wrong with your submission.

Yep, sure enough, I didn't save the 4000bc map; my submission was excluded. It's a shame, because I am not running another huge map game (except maybe on quick speed.)

Oh well. I am trying to crack ChallengeIII game 10 right now--deity, religious victory. I'll be happy to win any deity, 2049 would be fine.

Yeah, sorry about that, it was an accident, but it was so darn funny I had to let it stand. Matter of fact, I am still laughing.

Btw, where are the threads for the challenge games?

Found it, thanks shulec. (Thanks again, I believe.)
