While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.
(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

PLEASE NOTE TWO CONSTRAINTS!!!
First, this is a One City Challenge
Second, opponent must be Nebuchadnezzar II

Settings:
  • Expansion: Brave New World
  • Victory Condition: Diplomacy (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Difficulty: Immortal
  • Map Size: Duel
  • Map Type: Ice Age
  • Speed: Marathon
  • Leader: Persia (Darius I)
  • Required: One City Challenge
  • Opponents: Must include Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar II)
  • Version: SV8
  • Date: 5th to 31st January 2025
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

@The_J @Blake00

Always up for a good 1 city challenge.

I went for India as my opponent on this one, and chose islands option within Ice Age to limit opponent sprawl. On Immortal, I don't want a warlike and/or city-spamming civ, and with one city, I would rather just play nice and get trade routes and gold for luxuries from the other civ.

I tried a game or two with salt near my capital, but it was not ideal with islands as I could not steal a worker, and the salt development slowed down my science too much on Marathon. I ended up just beelining the Great Library, building Hagia Sophia later to get a religion, and focusing on great people generation to get the culture and science needed to get to Atomic Theory ASAP.

Oops, just realized Babylon was the required opponent... At least I know my strategy... Back to the well for one more go 😅

Managed to do even better against Babylon. They spawned on the same long island as me, so I kept poaching their settlers and workers to throttle their development and insure I could build whatever wonder I wanted. You need the key wonders to finish sub T-700 on this one. Good luck to anyone still trying this in the last hours.

Also, Happy Lunar New Year!

To be fair, here is the HOF Table for this game:

Seq Rank Player Date Turn Score ID Submit_Date TRank TScore
1 Bronze Medal zenmaster 1566 AD 678 3122 15345 2025-01-31 1 62.787
2 2 aafritz17 Jan 1901 AD 941 1987 15354 2025-02-01 2 9.552
3 3 keg 1968 AD 1074 2146 15342 2025-01-25 3 6.704

@zenmaster had only one city, but "One City Challenge" wasn't clicked on the start-up options. Good game, and - at least in my mind - you're the winner.

(I hate how this forum software treats tables. Hopefully, you can make sense of the above.)
