While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

    Settings:
    • Victory Condition: Cultural (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
    • Difficulty: Settler
    • Starting Era: Ancient
    • Map Size: Tiny
    • Speed: Normal
    • Map Type: Rain Forest
    • Civ: India
    • Opponents: Must include America (Lincoln), China (Qin Shi Huang), Ethiopia (Zara Yaqob), Japan (Tokugawa)
    • Version: 3.19.005
    • Date: 31st May to 29th June 2020
    Must not play as Inca.
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

What difficulty are we expected to play on?
Thread title says Emperor and the post says Settler.
    Please clarify. Thanks

Curious.I did some experimenting with this in Vanilla or Warlords long ago with Gandhi. There may be an early gauntlet like number 12 or something. It simple enough to run some maps and toy with this. At marathon speed it is possible to eliminate 3 AI by turn 12ish. Not sure how designating 3 AI matters here.

Submitted a 1180 AD game. Played it like a space game: 15 cities, 30 workers, ride the dom limit, and gift a city late. Temple requirement for cathedrals must be lower than 3 per. Too late now. Could have built factories/levies at the end.

Tried another one. 1140 AD w/9 cities. Comedy. One AI got a warrior on turn 8 just in time. Another AI beat me to the Oracle ~4 turns before I was about to finish it. Then at the end I had a stack of artists ready to go to any of 3 cities. I forgot to unstack them and so lost 2 turns when they all moved at once. May try one more.

880 AD with Gandhi. Pretty good game. Some mistakes: one artist lay idle for a turn too long and Oracle accidentally finished early. The game plan was to bulb education, Oracle Liberalism and take Nationalism. Instead the Oracle fetched Nationalism and Liberalism had to be hard teched. Free speech is the equal of 6 cathedrals. It's an ASAP tech. Organized religion was more useful than pacifism as multiple cities went into artist generation ASAP. 10 artists were on hand by the time pacifism was adopted.

Early game felt nearly flawless. 3 AI cities had been captured by turn 36 and each had a worker by then. The early game was all about warrior rushes and cheap temples. Conversion of food into hammers had to occur quickly. Green elephants, brown cows and deer are good tiles. This accounts for setting map finder to find starts with camp resources and a hut. The start below had 1 brown cow, 3 green elephants and 3 flood plains and 3 hills. Very good setup.

Toyed with this on other map types. Great plains seems viable but dom limit is acute. Inland sea should be viable but the sea tends to create early blockages for scouting units: too much work to be viable. Highlands can work as AIs can end up very close together despite a much larger map.

Free speech might be viable around turn 60 which would be insanely good. So what tech should liberalism fetch? Nationalism would not be an option nor a priority.
