We start the third Permanent HOF Minor Gauntlet in two days, and I do believe that update will prove to be quite interesting. :mischief: Why not whet some appetites a little early?

  • Victory Condition: (though all victory conditions must be enabled)

The basic point of this thread is to have a little guessing game to see who lands closest to the actual Gauntlet details. I'll add the difficulty in to see if that elicits any estimates:

  • Difficulty: Warlord
  • Mapsize: Small
  • Starting Era:
  • Speed:
  • Submitted on or before: June 24th.
  • Victory Condition: (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Map Type:
  • Opponents:
  • Version: HOF Mod 1.61.003
 
I'll take a guess ...

Speed: Marathon
Map: Archipelago
Opponents: India, China, Japan, Russia (basically Indo-Eurasia civs)
Victory: Culture
Start Era: Not Sure, guessing maybe not Ancient

The last one was "Time" but played almost the same as Conquest and Domination. So this one almost has to be Culture or Space Race. Probably Culture.

I'd be shocked if it were marathon. We havent' done Normal yet, so that's probably right.

Starting Era has never been anything but Ancient (which is probably a good thing). I'll stick with the standard there.

Odd you didn't let us speculate on Civilization. I guess it's Any then.

Now, what would make this more interesting...

A few aggressive opponents. (or maybe Always War turned on!)
High seas : would make it harder to construct wonders and spam cottages.
This would be a bad one for Barbarians on, since it's islands.

Any, other than of course the TBA AI. Selecting your own player nation is a fuandamental choice in regular HOF games, so it's something that will be optional quite frequently in the Gauntlets.

Being marathon, seems to be most appropriate for conquest or domination, the others might just turn into a wait-fest.
So maybe a historical island war scenario, with a certain starting era to reflect that?

WWII Pacific, industrial or modern era, the AI being America, Japan, China, Russia?
Colonial wars (carribbean), renaissance or medieval, vs France, Spain, England,...?
Colonial wars (southeast asia), renaissance, vs ...(damn, Portugal and Netherlands missing).

I can't think of any more big historical island wars. There don't seem to be many. Ah well, it doesn't sound very likely to me anyway... ;)

I do really like the carribbean idea though. Can we have that some day? Please, please! ;)

Well, I got map and speed right, but I was wrong on the opponents. And, I was probably wrong about the victory condition being cultural.

What about these settings?

  • Victory Condition: Domination (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Map Type: Archipelago
