While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

    Settings:
    • Expansion: Brave New World
    • Victory Condition: Science (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
    • Difficulty: Warlord
    • Map Size: Standard
    • Map Type: Inland Sea
    • Speed: Epic
    • Leader: Any
    • Opponents: Any
    • Version: SV8
    • Date: 3rd September to 1st October 2017
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

An Any Civs challenge on a relatively low difficulty level. Should be room for experimentation.

I am rollin' with Poland at present, but it is always tempting to hope Isabella can discover the Great Barrier Reef :)

Yeah, I went with Spain. No GBR or faith mountains, but I got Rock of Gibraltar and Old Faithful. The latter was very useful in the mid-game - purchase the tile and get 6 happiness instantly. Yeah, I'll take that.

Oddly enough, you get 413 gold for being the first to find NWs in these settings and 83 gold for those that have already been discovered. Not sure why it scales that way, maybe the difficulty level affects it somehow?

Having just recently mastered Warlord, I gave this a whirl....July 1961.....not sure if that's good yet, but might be our earliest space win yet.

I didn't set anything up....just went random civ and opponents. Ended up with Sweden, which seems like a pretty crappy civ.

Tried as Isabella, but also AtH. For that game, just walked the battering ram upgrade around, conquering the next 5 caps really quick (set to 5bil years).

So my 6 cities were pretty spread out, w/ only 1 real chance of a food caravan. Votes were much easier :). The game only took about 25 turns more than a decent (but not outstanding) Spain game (did have GBR in capital). So maybe on a crowded map (high seas pangea, ....) AtH may be decent

Cool expansion strategy! I think it would work very well on a Terra map.
Vadalaz has had great success using the Huns, and conquest in general, to have fast science games on Deity level, I know.

Nice that you are getting your science time down. On Warlord level, happiness isn't so much of an issue, so if you get those cities out early and growing as fast as possible, you can crank out more raw science quickly and get that time down further. I did not get a good Inland Sea coast start, but would have loved one to get the internal food cargo ship trade routes going for faster growth.

Sweden doesn't have a whole lot of advantages, true, but their special affinity for Great People can make them interesting to play. If you have friendly AI civs to get friendships with, and build your Guilds early, you can get a lot of run out of their Great Person production and get CS alliances with Great Musicians and such.

I absolutely love the Natural Wonders that grant automatic happiness. Sooooo helpful during expansion.

Funny you should mention the scaling. I had gotten weird dollar amounts before on a couple occasions in other settings, I thought, so I think you may be right about difficulty affecting the scaling.
