While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

    Settings:
    • Expansion: Brave New World
    • Victory Condition: Culture (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
    • Difficulty: King
    • Map Size: Small
    • Map Type: Pangaea
    • Speed: Standard
    • Leader: France (Napoleon)
    • Opponents: Any
    • Version: SV8
    • Date: 3rd October to 1st November 2017
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Recently started playing these gauntlets. Submitted a T326 for this one, which I'm pretty sure won't be too impressive. Just won a Sacred Sites game on T218. Submitted it to HOF, but I couldn't get it finished in time for this competition.

No worries! They will still count in the Hall of Fame. Getting a culture win the "standard" way is always tough, so kudos to you! I haven't done in forever, although France is a fun one to do it with.

Cool you got a Sacred Sites victory in. It is all about the faith production and ability to generate huge numbers of cities (space, happiness) :)

Tried this one now, thought 120-ish should be quite doable, but turned out @Svinopes's T132 is actually not so easy to beat. Got a T133 win on my 2nd try, it was a very nice game with strong start and everything, expected to get sub T130 easily, but then 2 factors limited me: 1st, I had very little space to expand, had to actually conquer and raze one of William's cities to be able to expand to just 10 cities. I had enough faith to probably get like 16-18 cities fully going before T120 (meaning around +70 Tourism instead of the +40 I had). Instead I popped 2 extra useless Great Prophets :/ The 2nd factor was that Maria somehow got a Culture bomb (probably popped a Great Writer), on T128. Otherwise it could have been a T129 win, but nothing to do about this one.

Ok so finally managed sub-T130 on my 4th full try - a solid T124 win.

Main factors for the better time were:
    1. didn't go Pyramids early and instead went for 4 cities fast (T47)
    2. managed to get +75% Tourism multipliers with both top2 civs in culture, and with top1 very fast (got lucky that it was Babylon who was my closest neighbour and also they got to Civil Service faster than me, don't remember exact turn but around T110; I didn't beeline Civil Service so I had it on T117)
    3. enough space to expand to 14 cities (actually 2 more Settlers were on their way, just didn't make it in time, wasn't sure how many cities I would need)
    4. no random culture bomb 1 turn before expected win like last time
    5. top1 civ's culture was not very high (1017 Culture on T124; I generated 1251 Tourism with them)

    Notable timings:
    T036 2 Settlers (Collective rule + built) + 2 workers, capital pop 4
    T047 4 cities
    T052 Stonehenge, +16 Faith
    T053 Religion
    T055 Piety
    T062 Philosophy
    T069 Organized Religion
    T072 Enhanced Religion
    T084 Sacred Sites, +4 Tourism
T100 6 cities, +14 Tourism, +60 Faith, +41 Culture, +25 Science, modifiers: trade route with 1st in culture
    T117 Civil Service
    T124 victory
