G20 meeting, April 2nd

About the failures, the Lisbon treaty is now practically certain to pass in the Senate. Once it is ratified by both houses here, the Czech gov. can start talking to Ireland. It had waited because it would be kind of hypocritical if it tried to convince Ireland without having the treaty ratified at home.

We'll never talk. NEVER.

I always love watching all sorts of loon fringe groups hijack protests so that they become incomprehensible mobs of crazies going in every direction. The coverage thus far has not disappointed.

I took some photos and a video of the protesters during my lunch break.

Spoiler :

Video of some guys getting owned by the police.

This next woman claimed to have been injured by the police in some way. She was also the person saying "oh no! oh no!" repeatedly on the video. She also cried "Police brutality!" when they started strong-arming people away from the van.

OMFG LOOK AT THE FREAKIN RIOT VAN!!!! :D COOOOOL!!

A herd of pigs, congregated in a small patch of sunlight.

The environmental damage caused by mankind in the pursuit of, err, environmental awareness. I am certainly now acutely aware of the environmental impact of climate protesters.

I just saw one picket sign on the news that said, "Stop World War 3 over Iraq, NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST".

You tell 'em, anonymous kook :goodjob:

When I was working in downtown Manhattan during the 80s, the No Nukes protest group decided to "shut down Wall Street" by chaning themselves to various doors and making a picket line to stop people from getting to work. I had pulled an all-nighter so I was pretty scruffy looking in my dad's old Army jacket as I decided to head home after most of the protests had ended. I also had a full beard and fairly long hair at the time. You wouldn't believe the looks of sheer hatred I received from most of the suit-and-tie Wall Street crowd as I made my way to the WTC to take the subway home.

Perception is quite frequently greater than the truth.

What do you expect to come from it? Will it be divisive or uniting? Think there will be any big surprises etc?

Obama will ask for stimulus, Sarkozy will reject it, they all say diplomatic "we stand together" fluff, everybody goes home to respective countries not accomplishing anything.

Did anyone notice that Ziimbabwe is a member of the G20 developing nations?

Saw that just now, and i gave myself a little lol.

Protectionism rearing its ugly head is what I expect.

“Australia Blocks Bid For Oz Minerals” in this weekend's Financial Times.
The Australian government just blocked this bid by China’s Minmetals.

To be fair, Australia would have done the same thing in any economic situation. We have a weird thing about not letting mining companies have too much foreign ownership. If it was in any other industry, it probably would have been allowed.

You and the extreme left are two sides of the same coin. I am always surprised (and pleased) that you don't work together more often, like you did in the 30's.

Wait, what? Outside of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact pact, which wasn't a cooperation for ideological reasons, (nor should one consider 1939+ "the 30s") when did fascism ever cooperate with communism/socialism? It essentially defined itself as a conservative anti-communist movement!

It's time like these that I need to pull out my favourite Catherine the Great quote: "Kings ought to go their own way without worrying about the cries of the people, as the moon goes on its course without being stopped by the cries of dogs."

Good thing we don't have kings. I would strongly suggest our elected representatives not ignore our cries.

:)

I'd rather not listen to the words of a monarch that had sex with a horse, than you very much.

would you care to get into some economic specifics about that quote Bast? how would you apply that if you were one of the G20 leaders?
