GA II - Straight-Up DemiGod

i think we really have to go for zimbabwe, we got a big stack that will surely take that city, it's the city we need most (iron + horses), what i meant is to continue until we got even that wine city, i am sure with 3 Civ's hitting zulu, all their units are spread thin

we might be able to kick the zulus off the planet, it seems that they get some pounding by the germans and greek

That was what I was hoping for :) We probably would've been slaughtered by swords and horses, if we had to face them alone.

And by all means, go for Zimbabwe. that was the warplan after all. I only decided to start the Zuluwar early because of the war with Portugal. And Swazi is a nice pitstop :)

IBT- Tours riots  Greece building Hanging Gardens (IIRC) and Vikings building Great Wall. Suicide galley sank.
1
IBT- Construction==>Currency (wasn't too sure on this one, did I mess up?)
2
IBT- Zulu send an Impi and 2 archers to Ngome. Need help from the RNG.
3
IBT- Greece and Zulu sign peace.
4
IBT- Zulu troops head to Tugela rather than Ngome. Yay.
5
Contact Ghandi. They're backward (we're up CoL and Poly) but they only have 43 gold so no trade. Zimbabwe captured, but extreme casualties meaning only 3 archers. At least we won...
6
Rouen founded. Lux to 20%.
8
Did a bunch of math and decided not to buy Literature from Germany (basically my thought was sell it to others but in the end we'd have 1 gpt deficit at 0% science.)
9
IBT- Germany and the Zulu sign peace. Maybe we should rethink this now... We'll have to have the team discuss it.

i checked the save, here my comments:

with 2 archers, 1 impi + 1 horse at the doorstep of zimbabwe, we have don't really have a choice, do we?
so what can we get for peace?
1. Intombe, a jungle city but somewhat connecting ngome and zimbabwe
2. good discounts on either monarchy (for 130g) or republic (17gpt)

i tend to favor getting republic. we can also get literature from rome for 140g and send some tech to india before someone else does.

other comments:
why is Paris on 11 spt? with some MM we can shuffle tiles between Lyons, Paris and Tours and speed up growth or units. We should churn out more settlers since Rouen was founded at a different spot than Bede and me suggested (and that sport is still available).
Marseilles is a fast growth city, it should speed builds while is despotism.

since we need to make peace with zulu, who is the next target? we can connect iron and horses, for this getting intombe would be the better option

I was thinking Greece for another target...also to get the city to the south of us.

I suppose I'll keep science at 0% in Republic (if we revolt), and buy + sell techs as needed. I would rather get a city in a peacedeal, as that is much more important later in the game then Republic.

I got it - will play tomorrow, and give you guys time to discuss.

Turn 0 - 350 BC
Our war situation is looking bleak. We sign peace with the Zulus for Republic, and we pay 298 gold. Not a bad deal, I suppose.
Since we need luxuries, and we might go to war with the Greeks soon, I send silks, 114 gold, and 2 gpt to the Zulu for wines. We

now have two luxuries.
We'll wait one or two turns to revolt, so that we have enough cash to buy Currency.

IBT: Paris: Archer -> Aqueduct
Chartres: Archer -> Archer
Delhi completes the Great Wall.

Turn 1 - 330 BC
One more turn and we'll buy Currency...

IBT: Lyons: Archer -> Archer
Rheims: Archer -> Spearman

Turn 2 - 310 BC
We buy Currency from the Portugese for 10 gpt, 56 gold, and Silks. We enter the Middle Ages. They already know Monotheism

and Feudalism. The Greeks don't know Feudalism = No Pikeman and MDIs for them! The Greeks don't have any iron! [dance]
We trade Currency to the Scandinavians for Literature.
We revolt, and draw 6 turns. I fix happiness.

Turn 3 - 290 BC
Nothing...

Turn 4 - 270 BC
Nothing...

Turn 5 - 250 BC
3 Turns left...

Turn 6 - 230 BC
2 Turns left...

Turn 7 - 210 BC
Last turn!

Turn 8 - 190 BC
We're a Republic!
I disband some units that are useless...(warriors, scouting units, etc)...

Turn 9 - 170 BC
Nothing.

Turn 10 - 150 BC
Not a lot, just try to improve cash...

:shakehead

You are such an optimist, GA. Out of a bleak situation you get Republic at a 50% discount, horses, iron and the opportunity to build marketplaces....

Pretty good, I'd say. :goodjob:

Got it. Try to play today.

I have to stop in 130BC.

Pushed enter and the Portugee declared war sending 3AC and three archers straight at Zimbabwe. Our defending archer defeated an attacking Portugee archer, but we have four D1's facing the remaining bunch.

Germany will fight Protugal for 25g and 8gpt (affordable).

I think my only option is ally with Germany, abandon the town, pull back to Swazi and let Germany and Portugal fight it out, and maybe we can pull Greece into the conflict. If I let them take the town we will be giving Portugal access to horses and iron and it will cost us four archers and a couple of slaves. If the archers can reach the cover of the moutains or the jungle there is a slim chance they will survive mostly intact.

Before I do something irrevocably stupid I need the team's advice....

On the upside we got back the 10gpt and silks we were paying the Portugee....

Wow, suprising they declared war when they were getting 10 gpt and a luxury. You have the best idea. Pull troops out of Zimbabwe, move them to Swazi, get a MA with Germany (since we now get our 10 gpt from Portugal back), and do the best you can. Good luck. :)

We should have some defense down there by now? We have spears at home lazying around in the sun and getting fat.

Ah well, we can't just "give" them the town, so abandoning is the best thing if we are over-powered.

abandon the city, and run for cover...
maybe those AC's will turn towards that german town
what do we do from there? there is one portugese city within reach (braga), hardly the target we were aiming for. well, there is still hope that we got at least some salpeter for our UU, but we need those horses and iron. is there a settler available to settle that spot later on.
initially, when i moved that archer stack, there was 1 spear on top and i think i tried to pull some more over to zimbabwe. well, doesn't matter now.
agree on pulling in the greek as well, soften them before we can strike them.

Spears got ate by something in the jungle I think...

Anyway, acknowledge, "And they ran through the brambles....."

And here's the rest of the story....

And the Portugese send AC's and archers flying into
Zimbabwe.....our archer defeats the Portugee archer
flawlessly.

And the idiot French expand the palace with a
porch...while Zimbabwe riots.

Germany joins the fight for 25g+8gpt...

I've got four archers facing 3AC and two Portugee
bowstringers....do I abandon the town and save the force?

Follow advice as given.

Then notice that Henry is fielding maces as well as his
AC's. Turn science down to zero for military build up.

In 110BC Henry the Navigator builds Knights Templar.

In 70BC Rouen withstands AC/archer/warrior attacks and
receives reinforcement just in time to face the next wave
of AC's and archers.

In 30BC trade silks to Greece as our sources are secure in
the neighborhood of Lyons.

10AD We are hanging in there at Rouen.

30AD More of the same, Henry really wants that little
burg.

50AD Rouen still stands, it now has walls. There is one
catapult in the ville and some more on the way. The
jungle stops the attackers dead in their tracks and the
cats will sting them for finishing by the archers in the
town.

The Porugee force in front of Rouen is now spears and archers, no AC's, no maces. Henry will now pay us for a peace treaty....the alliance
with Germany still has 11 turns to run.

GAII_50AD.jpg

Henry sent the fast units to Germany, I bet :)

We can hold firm for another 11 turns, we don't want to trash our rep.

We also need to build up another swarm of something, to regain the spot we lost (Zimbabwe) Otherwise we will be in a heap of trouble.

maybe we can take Braga before the alliance expires, at least gets us a better return for peace.
i wonder who has taken that precious zimbabwe spot? portugal seems to be the civ to beat on our island.

Zulu resettled it.

We have a swarm of stingers in Rouen and more on the way.

We have a swarm of stingers in Rouen and more on the way.

Great news, we have to take that place back ASAP, so we need a settler ready to go there as well.

We might also be able to take out Braga, if we have enough units. That would be a feather in someones hat :)

And then when we're ready to give Greece a go, we are sitting so fine.

THere is a Greek woorker building a road in front of Braga. Maybe an RoP with Greece to cross at Knossoswill put our cats in ftont of Braga.

Barracks towns are building spears right now as the defending garrison is a mite weak.
