Game crashes when Civilopedia opens first time

I haven't experienced any bad crashes in mid-game yet, but for some reason my game freezes to the point where I have to ctrl-alt-del out every time I open the Civilopedia for the first time in a session. Once I've closed the game and restarted it, I can then look at the Civilopedia without crashing - it only happens the first time I open it. Anyone else experiencing this? It's so predictable that I can just Quick-save and get right back into it, but it's still a pain because the game starts up so slowly.
