Hello all!
I can not run my CIV 5 in my PC.
I have read all the suggestions, and I have done the test of minimum requiriments (that I passed) and the game still doesn't start...
Any ideas, please?
Thanks

Thanks for the answer.
I installed the Direct X version who was available in the installation (I don't remeber the version, as now I'm not at home...
THe game doesn't start at all: I run Steam, I choose to play Civ 5 (which is installed), and nothing happens. THe mouse is in the screen 'thinking' for a few seconds, and then nothing... no error message, nothing.
I want to highlight that my PC passed the test for CIV ...

I'm having a similar issue though it will run in the background as a process but nothing actually starts happening. There is no data in the my games folder either.

Sent a ticket to steam with all the info for the error they asked for, still no answer.

I do receive an error while running the game and do not get to see even a hint of the game i bought for 40 some €...

I sugest you send also your requests via steam support.

https://support.steampowered.com/

You will need to make a support account and then submit some files with some data of your computer and I recommend sending some screens of the errors your computer is getting.

Best of the lucks, and may they patch the game soon!

Zafyro, from your signature I see that you are from Spain... me too!
Maybe is some problem with the Spanish servers?
Not only they don't include Spain but don't let Spaniards play!!! ;););)

I had a similar issue that arose after the game was trying to sync itself with Steam, and then I went to play and the same thing happened.

What I found out was that, in some course of the sync process, the .exe file for Civ5 was completely erased from my hard drive...no clue as to how it was erased. I was incensed, couldn't get it back, and was trying to read everything on the forums that I could at steam to figure out if something had happened to that cuased it or if I needed to re-install (please note that I had played the game for almost 4 days at this point).

Then I noticed something pop up in the lower right corner of the steam screen: "Civilization5.exe has finished downloading."

HUH?

So apparently, Steam knew the .exe file was erased and how it got erased, and it was "fixing" the issue.

Bizarre.

My OS is also in spanish. Could be it...

I'm Spanish also yes.

And I'm a bit sick of this. I mean, sick of games that wont work, what happened to those games you bought and voila, you were able to play them without problems.

Why this urge in release faulty games, and what should we do now? There's not an official communication to all us players who are not able to play the game, and it seems we are not a few. How are they going to compensate us for not being able to use something we have paid (a lot) for.

I've been for several days testing all kind of fixes, spending the few hours I have left for COMPUTER FUN in one of the most alienating activities one can do, installing and de-installing software from a computer.

3 days ago I sent a ticket to steam support, and I'm still waiting for them to send anything back.

Sorry for the rant... I'm formating my computer and will try new fixes and updates, and of course will post any results... until now nothing worked out.

What I'm going to do is wait till Friday: if 2K don't sort this out before Friday, I will go to the shop (Media Market) and I'll claim my money back.
I completely agree with you, it's a shame and a waste of time; I will try not to waste my money as well.

Well, reinstalling everything from the very beggining did not work at all. Same problem.

But I received an answer from steam support that I'll try today, I'm pasting it here so you could also try it.

Good luck

Could you please tell me essence of this message?

Shortly looking over it (my spanish is besides "Como te llamas?" and "Como esta?" nearly non existent): Is it again about "special characters", like accents or similar, in the username somewhere? This time in the steam username?

He told him to delete the game, and then run the Verify Integrity of cache option for the game. I'm not sure if that's even possible, since there'd be no game files to run the verification for. Also, after tinkering with this issue for the last 5 days, I'm pretty sure nothing related with verifying the cache fixes the game.

Hello all,
Basically what it says is that you have to go to your game folder, delete it, validate your cache files, and reinstall it again.
I tried this and it doesn't work neither.
It is quite desperating!!!

I think i have a similiar problem. When I look in the Steam apps folder, I don't see an .exe file anymore even though I've played the game numerous times over the past week. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Steam is reloading the file. Is there any way to prompt it?

Is there a background Steam process running, in addition to the one you try to run the game with? When the patch came out, mine stuck on "syncing" for several days, until I found an instruction to kill the running Steam processes. As soon as I killed the extra process and started up Steam, it downloaded the patch and started running with the new version.

On my system (Windows 7) the extra process minimized to the tray, which I had to open with an upward pointing triangle on the right side of the task bar.

That post specifically mentions Windows XP -- are those of you with the problem running on XP or on a later version of Windows?

Edit: I sent 2K Greg a PM on the 2K forum about the Windows version, asking if it's XP or later versions too.
