Game dosent even load

Whenever I run civ, i get the first graphic that says loading in all the different languages, and once that disappears, it is replaced with a windows error which states something to the effect of, "multiple identities exist". I've tried updating, rolling back, and using omega graphics drivers, and nothing has worked. I more than meet the specifications. Also, this laptop is using a nvidia geforce go 6200 if that helps. PLEASE HELP!

That usually comes down to a problem with the cd drive.

Try updating the firmware for the drive from laptop manufacturers website.

I'm still pretty sure its a drive problem. Whats the modle number of the drive?

To find out right click on the drive from my computer, then propities then click on the hardware tab.

Uninstall the game, manually delete all leftover civ folders. Reinstall. Apply the latest patch: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/patch/. Any better?

If not, follow these instructions to enable logging: http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_logging.htm. Find the generated init.log file and either attach it or copy&paste its contents to your post.

Post a screenshot of your error or write the exact error message.

i tried to do the steps for checking hte log, and it says that the shortcut is broken and that it can be fixed to the closest matching file, which happens to be empty.

If you search for "~df394b.tmp" in google, you will see that your problem is related to copy protection. Here's a link to sony support, I was not able to find your dvd drive though: http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/index.htm. Doublecheck its name and try find some firmware/drivers there.
