Game not loading

Hi all.

Recently purchased Beyond the Swords from direct2drive.

This is the series of events that led me to where i am now.

When i finished downloading the game i proceeded to install BTS. All went fine. Game loaded fine.
I then loaded the mod final frontier. This loaded ok after following a few steps from the creator.
When i got to playing the game there were many errors with graphics and leaders which the game kept crashing.
i done some research and found that i hadn;t updated CIV 4 to latest patch before installing BTS.
So, i uninstalled everything and removed all reg files, saved games, everything to do with civ 4 from my pc.

I installed CIV 4 again, updated to latest patch. Then installed BTS.
Loaded Up to final frontier mod again and i was in heaven, had a fantastic game best part of 4-5 hours, with no errors.

Then i come to load up BTS (tried normall as well as mod) and nothing happens. so i went through the whole process of unistall again and hey pesto i was able to play BTS again. AFter another marathon i shutdown.
I've tried to load up today and exactly the same has happened, it simply won't start up

i double click on the shortcut on my desktop and in the file location, for a few seconds i get the circular loading icon on cursor, then it goes and nothing has happened.
I've tried loading the normal CIV 4 but exactly the same happens...

All my direct x, graphics and sound drivers are fully up to date.
Use mccaffe Security Center.

Windows Vista 32 bit.
Intel core2 extreme CPU Q6850 @ 3.00ghz
4gb ram
Dual nvidia Geforece 8800 gtx 768mb

Would appreciate any help to get this running as i don;t want to have to reinstall everytime i want to play the game.

Welcome to CFC

mcafee is known to interfere with a lot of programs - try disabling it and see if the game works.
also: did you install the game and the patches with admin rights (right click on the installers and choose run as administrator) - just installing them on an admin account does not count in Vista

its not mcaffeee same thing is happeneing to me and i dont have mcafee matter of fact be4 i play anything i disable my kaspersky anti virus

there are multiple reasons for the game not starting - mcaffee is just one...
is there any error message in your case?

I get this same sort of problem. I've installed the 3.17 patch, and the newest version of the unofficial patch. I'll get the 'loading' splash screen, and my computer operation will then be slowed down, apparently by some ~e5.50001 *32 process with a description of "Cleanup". If I end the BtS process, this cleanup process goes away.

I can start the game normally sometimes, but after a few times starting the game and quitting, this always happens. It is rather annoying.

this process is part of the safedisk feature used to verify that the original disc is in the drive - you might want to check if any antivir program you have is interfering with it...
