Game Session Instruction Thread (GSIT) Saturday, September 5th @ 1200 hrs (CDT)

If you want, i could do 5 turns friday afternoon. Modern war can be a pain when you are evenly matched, thats for sure. Homeland defense could be done with Bombers, where they won't get shot down. Artillery can't be shot down, so its better for warzones. The MAs might be the ticket, if we have enough. I'll be watching and maybe i can help.

Fridy afternoon sounds good.

Here's my thoughts. You can ignore them if you'd like.

I would spend most of our gold rushing the MAs that will complete in 2-3 turns. That will give us close to 20 MAs on the mainland for your first turn. I would fill the Army in Rhiannon first, then load the Transports. That about 4 of the 8 Transports you have. 2 more Transports will be used taking the Arties over. That will leave you 2 Transports to carry whatever you pick and choose from the remaining Mainland units. I would land them on the Mountain East of Thessalonica.

I would take all of the naval units in the area, including the group by __ Kabir, and bombard Thessalonica. Take that city, then Bombard Pharsalos with whatever I could, and take that city. Taking Athens and Sparta will take their Coal and Rubber (they have another source of Rubber, but it doesn't appear to be hooked up). Sparta would eliminate the UN problem. I would destroy the UN if I had the chance.

Taht's more like 15 turns of work, so if you feel like it, play on or do a second set over the weekend. Whatever you'd like.

P.S. I might rush a Transport in Bursa to bring some units from that continent to Persia. We need units to free up our Armies. Also, watch out for the Cairde Cav by Sardica. He just moved North, not sure what he's thinking.

Played another 5 turns, basically using those very same thoughts. We're still doing OK, but maybe some of you have some comments or advice.

We've landed in Greece and taken our first city, poised to take the second on our way to Athens and Sparta. Bismark of the Cairde went Catious on us (the UN risk), but we brought him back to polite. We are now strong to the Greeks, and the Persians are not much of a threat, although Alex is making their conquest difficult.

We are poised to take Athens, we've finally captured the Blood Diamonds, and are slowly taking the enemy continent. Stay tuned.

I have old addictions and new ones, sometimes the new ones take over for awhile, but the old reliable addictions remain. When I tire of a new one, the old ones await. Civving is an old addiction for me, so it will come back.

Looks like the game is going well.

We have six native luxuries, a well established beachhead overseas, and the ability to have a defensive choke-hold near Dariush Kabir, once Hamadan and Bactra become ours. Athens looks ready to fall next turn, which might make Sparta easier. I'm only worried about Sparta because the UN is there.

The Panzer People are down to five cities. Do we need to be worried that they will not survive the game?

I have been worried about that, CB. That be the reason I've supplied the Cairde with any extra resources we might have, plus given them timely injections of Technology to help ward off their attackers. The massive Greek Army and constant Persian invaders we have been seeing all come out of the Cairde theatre. Both have given up conquering the mighty blue to save their cities. The real trick is keeping the ole Bismarck polite or gracious.

My knowledge of Modern Era Wonders is a bit spotty, but if we built The Internet instead of Apollo, won't we get Research Labs in all our cities and don't they add to culture too (for border expansion)?

Zahoak, the current capital of Persia, will die soon and then Persia will be too scattered across the map to be a real threat. Greece still has some large cities, but if we just attack due east and march to their East Coast they will be gutted. Not exactly news, but good to know.

I'm thinking as close as we are to the end of the game, CB, the Culture generated by The Internet wonder will be of no great consequence. We have too many units to support right now anyway and I have started building Reseach Labs as a way of toning down our military production.

Yes, I agree with your strategy. Greece was always the big threat. Now that we have their capital and UN, we can concentrate on their size 23 city. After that, it a cakewalk to Southern Greece. What could be beter than that? I hope my camera battery is charged...
