[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

There's been no confirmation one way or the other, but there's been speculation that it might be a historical advisor. If it is a generic advisor/governor then they missed an opportunity to give Persia satraps.
Well, they really missed an opportunity to give any empire their associate governors ;)

Indeed, and in these forums there was no shortage of displeasure either, including from me. I don't find the governors to have distinct personalities in any event, so I find the use of cartoony graphics and sometimes anachronistic or otherwise ill-suited governor names annoying and unnecessary.

I hated their aesthetic initially, but I've gotten used to them, if still not ideal.

As a gameplay mechanic it's been the opposite - I thought them promising at first, and hate them more and more as tedious micromanagement the more I play.

It really depends on the civ, I think. We have no info yet. If the Ottomans get the unique governor, it might be a generic governor named "Pasha". If Sweden gets it, for example, it might as well be a certain historical person (Axel Oxenstierna).
Since all governors do have real names, I expect that a possible Ottoman unique governor would also have a real name rather then a generic one.

Renounce your min-maxing ways and join me in bliss that is casual play. :)

I would find them more annoying for casual building style - you have to move Liang every time you want to build fish farms or city parks for example.

Honestly I just usually ignore them from mid game onward.

On a side note, do people like the new game title screen that came with this expansion? I believe Civ5 got a similar one. I like it, it looks sharp, but it seems to take a little longer to come up, my only gripe. and sometimes I forget I never clicked on play only to check back minutes later to find out why the game isn't loading. It's nice not having to change the Direct X settings every damn time.

Obviously, but the features of the governors are more exaggerated than those of the leaders. And while I don't personally have a problem with the way the governors look, there was no shortage of displeasure being voiced on the Civilization subreddit after they were revealed.
All of Civ VI has the same exaggerated CivRev Brian Busatti cartoony style. There was no shortage of displeasure about the graphic style of Civ VI in general, but that hardly means they'll change anything. They can't really change the style of new additions now; it would look stupid to have one realistic governor amongst all the other cartoony ones.

I'm guessing it might not get a name but be called the Grand Vizier for the Ottomans, who I am leaning towards it being.

As for Sweden I randomly thought of an achievement today:
Facing my Waterloo:
As Sweden lose one of your military units escorting Napoleon while having a Great Work of Music from at least four different Great Musicians. (as a reference to ABBA)

Ok a new expansion. But still this missing science yield coming from population in the reports panel ? This day one bug drives me literally mad !

I agree, I hate the extra micro management they introduce.

Just wish Firaxis could've found a different way of managing Loyalty, because essentially that's the main reason they're included.

I was very critical of the art style of Civ 6 when it was first announced, but it's grown on me. I like how pretty the map looks with all the little animations and vibrant colors.
I agree. It’s definitely more cartoony than 5, but no more cartoony than 4 in my opinion. It is beautiful though, I would argue more beautiful than 5. Unless you’re in a dark age :( :( :(

Funny I think the graphics are still better even if you're in a dark age and there aren't any polders around. :D

I actually dont remember now. I tried to find it last night but didn't. I'm pretty sure I saw it though, with the options being half blocked by the developers, but there clearly were only two. It was also very brief since Carl clicked it away.
I think it was Jadwiga, but theoretically it could even be possible it was in the other stream. I'm pretty sure I didnt imagine things though!

I did find it at 43:48. I'll post a screenshot in the screenshots thread. You were correct. We apparently can no longer ignore the troops on the border message.

The small touches of animation in Civ 6 shows the art team's good work. I particularly liked the aurora over the polar regions and the dust winds over the desert.

My small issue is that the sun still rises in west and sets in the east.
