They aren't being denied their rights. its just a flag... I mean, they put the banner up for them. Isnt the banner enough?
Spoiler :
The Truro Daily News
TRURO A local gay pride group has filed a human rights complaint against the Town of Truro for its refusal to fly a gay pride flag earlier this month.
Charles Thompson said the groups lawyer filed a complaint to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission Wednesday, although he had hoped things wouldve been resolved another way.
Ideally, Thompson had hoped they couldve met with the town to resolve the issue, but came to realize it wouldnt happen.
I guess I was a little naive in thinking that, he said.
He is even more disappointed after reading an agreement between the town and the rights commission from 2005, which encouraged respecting diversity.
What about us? We deserve it too.
The complaint will be reviewed by the commission within six to eight weeks and it will decide whether the complaint is valid and what should be done.
Thompson said in the past, pride groups have filed similar complaints against towns in New Brunswick, Ontario and British Columbia. In each case, commissions ruled against the municipalities.
