OK, any UI has two parts:
1. The Style;
2. The Usability.

For now, I'm going to focus on the least important aspect, the Style. Right now the "style" is "hey let's use slate gray". But here's my idea, let me know what you think:

Have the UI Style change to match each Age. All of the window placement and text are the same, but the style changes. For example:

Antiquity Age:
The cursor is replaced by a hairy-knuckled fist, which smashes a rock onto the button when you click, accompanied by a rock/rock thud. The windows and buttons all look like carvings in rock or marble.

Exploration Age:
The cursor is replaced by a Knight's lance, which stabs the button you click, accompanied by the sound of a sword stabbing a pig. The windows and buttons all look like a Jousting Pavilion, with ribbons and tapestry hangings.

Modern Age:
The cursor is replaced by a lightsaber, which stabs the button you click, accompanied by a Jetson's-style beep. The windows and buttons all look like 1950's Modern aesthetic, with blond wood and flowing water.

Genius!

Ugh, are you trying to be sarcastic? If not, this sounds absolutely atrocious and camp to me, and I don't think it fits the style of Civilization at all.

I was hoping that based on how simplistic it seemed Firaxis would add an option to either meta-unlock new colors or customization options for the UI, that or allow modders have a framework to change it to their hearts content like they do in paradox games like Stellaris and EU4 (there are soooo many mod options in those games).

Obviously based on the cut UI weve seen, they changed course really late and couldn't correct in time for release, I imagine it's the console version that derives the decisions, and all future UI design decisions.)
