George Bush visits the UK

All true Hitro- but those consequences are not as severe as the consequences of separating yourself even further from the public through mass-demonstrations. My preferred alternative to all of those tactics is to actually express an argument, or "knock on doors" to convince real people, but those sorts of quaint efforts to actually build support have been deemed too "complacent" for years.
The unfortunate truth is, most likely, that there is no real solution to the problem of how to reach the people, as long as you don't have influence in the media. Even under the assumption that "the people" would theoretically be "on your side" if you "educate" him properly (which the average leftist activist does assume) all efforts available to you, from all you proposed to blowing up others will be drastically outweighed by the influence of the media.

But by demonstrating those who do it at least can say (mostly to themselves) that they did what was within their possibility as individuals, not everyone can pull of some publicity stunt like that woman at Buckingham Palace (now how many support did that bring?) but that doesn't have to mean they should do nothing.

What I don't understand about Bush's visit to our neighbour is - why in the first place? All I hear about is how having an audience with the Queen is a great photo-op, and dubya's got an election next year.
But come on, how many Americans are going to look back in a year's time at George and Lizzie taking tea in Buck Palace, and get a warm glowy feeling that makes them go out and vote? People arent' that dumn, surely?
