Georgia finally engages in a war

I did say "Devil's advocate" because I personally kind of side with Georgia in all of this.

I hate to play Devil's advocate here, but the US did invade Grenada to protect American lives back in the 1980s.

Ummm....

We rescued civilian (student) HOSTAGES.

You haven't read history or seen Heartbreak Ridge?

Georgia was holding Russian civilians hostage? Who was bound and gagged?

Okay wait, I am reading an article from the BBC please note this line:

It is legally part of Georgia, since its self-proclaimed independence has been recognised by no other state, including Russia.

So explain how you can say you are going in to assist another nation and that this is not an internal Gerogian matter?

And in the face of this the UN does........NOTHING! Way to go UN!!!

The UN put Russian "peace keepers" there to begin with. They did do something..... To do anything now would be like admitting they screwed up to begin with.

You Russians seem to think that South Ossetia is already independent, and it's ok for you to help them.

Well, it's still part of Georgia. Regardless if they have Russian Paszport's or not.

That explains a few things. :crazyeye:

Just like Finland. They should invade that pathetic country and be done with it. What's the rest of the world going to do? :p The place was a part of the Russian empire for centuries and it has no real history as an independent nation. :crazyeye:

They did try it. And the rest of the world did exactly nothing. And they failed and the matter was settled. The Caucasus might as well get done with also, whatever way it goes.

South Ossetia has longed for and sometimes fought for independence since the 1920s when the Soviet Government made it an autonomous region within Georgia.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Georgia broke away from Moscow in 1991 and South Ossetia voted overwhelmingly for its own independence.

Well South Ossetia's desire for independence doesn't exactly appear to be a new thing. You can hardly accuse it of being falsely formented by Russia.

Well, one might expect a little sympathy, but taht would be too much to ask from you, obviously.

Spoiled children of democracy...

I, for one, reject your request. The discussion will continue and the thread will be closed when we see fit to do so.

Have a nice day :)
