This model is from General Matt... he still can't access CFC, so I'm posting it for him... progress on new naval units continues, and here is his latest work...

This ship, made by primarily by General Matt with a little help from Wolfshanze and The Coyote, is essentially a German Heavy Cruiser, based on the Deutschland-class 'Pocket-Battleships'. Since all three of the Deutschland class ships varied a little in layout, this particular model is based specifically on the most famous of the three... the Admiral Graf Spee.

The Deutschland class was a series of three Panzerschiffe ("armored ships"), a form of heavily armed cruiser, built by the German Reichsmarine more or less in accordance with restrictions imposed by the Treaty of Versailles. The class is named after the first ship of this class to be completed (the Deutschland). She and her sister ships, the Admiral Scheer and the Admiral Graf Spee, were all launched between 1931 and 1934 and served in Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II.

The British began referring to the vessels as pocket battleships ("a battleship that fits into a pocket"), in reference to the heavy firepower of the relatively small vessels; they were considerably smaller than battleships and battlecruisers, and although their displacement was that of a heavy cruiser, they were armed with guns larger than the heavy cruisers of other nations. Deutschland class ships continue to be called pocket battleships in some circles. The ships were actually two feet longer than the American Pennsylvania-class battleships, though considerably narrower and much less heavily armored.

Deutschland class ships were initially classified as panzerschiffe, but the Kriegsmarine reclassified them as heavy cruisers in February 1940.

Nice touch, that last screenshot. ;)

Only too bad about der Nazi flag on the model. :(

Yeah... I liked that too...

Oh please... in-game it's a red smudge at best. The custom Bismarck has a big huge SWASTIKA plastered all over the deck of the ship for the whole world to see. For the record, that is the naval ensign of the Kriegsmarine, not the Nazi party flag.

So what'ya gonna do?

General Matt and I refuse to censor true history (or burn any books) for the sense of political correctness. If a red smudge in-game bothers you that much, feel free to alter the red smudge to some other smudge.

We did not release this ship as a political statement, nor refuse to allow others to turn it into one. It's a historically accurate recreation of a set time-piece... if you don't like it, don't download it!

Hm, where does the Exeter come from ? Don't think I saw her before

Nice ship (the Graf Spee) :)

EDIT: I assume the Exeter is the Sussex

Yeah... I cheated and used the "Sussex" (aka: County-class) heavy cruiser for the Exeter. The Exeter is it's own class of heavy cruiser (which we don't have a Civ4 model for, and don't get any funny ideas GM)... but I just wanted the Graf Spee to take out it's anger on it's traditional foe the HMS Exeter.

P.S.
Note this download is the "official" v1.0 release of the Graf Spee... the Graf Spee found in the Wolfshanze Mod (v2.73) is actually a very late Beta... so this is newer/better then the one in v2.73 of the Wolfshanze Mod.

I completely agree

Not anymore on the texture I use. ;)

Jeez, a simple textline about my preferences in flagcolor, and I got this whole political statement crap over my head.

So if we take these files and overlay them on the ones for this unit in your mod, Wolfshanze we should be able to build the latest version in your mod?

I don't like capitalism, interventionism, puritanism and this God called dollars in whom all these bastard believe but i paint US roundels on my planes :p

Seriously, i agree totally with Wolfshanze. History is history. If you want some realism with your models/textures, you can't replace a flag or something else.
When I see the german imperial flag in WW2 scenario or games like Hearts of Iron… It's a shame... really.

Very nice model, it;s a really good unit to have for the german civilization. Now we have german destroyer, cruiser, sub and battleship afaik now :). This may not be the appropriate place to ask, but does anyone know if the new skins for bismarck (and if I remember correctly some other ships) is available somewhere? If memory serves me they were from danrell on his screenshots for the other battleship reskins. Especially the texture of the bismarck was a lot clearer. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Last time I checked, you were the only one trying to talk negatively about using the proper historically accurate flag. If you don't want to be reminded about the use of historically accurate flags, then don't bring the subject up...that's all on you. I suppose you won't watch any WWII movies either unless Hitler wears an Imperial German armband?

Danrell has updated/better-textured Z-Class Destroyers and a Bismarck... unfortunately, even with Snafu's permission, Danrell has never uploaded them to the database... he's kept them to himself despite repeated requests to release them!

Yeah... the Wolfshanze Mod has it's art FPK'd, so you can't literally overlay it, but you can simply put it in the same directory, as a directory will over-ride the FPK.

Go into the Wolfshanze Mod directory and create this folder: Assets/Art/Units/German/HeavyCruiser/Grey and dump all the necessary NIF/KFM/DDS files into there... it should then use the v1.0 Pocket Battleship (you can easily tell because the new version is properly centered, while the Beta is not properly centered).

This will of course be "officially" updated in the next release of the Wolfshanze Mod.

I did? Be so kind to point me to the post.

And you misquoted me, ignoring the "". Taking things out of context again, are we? ;)

well done wolfy.simply,awesome.!
the secondary armament is visible, the catapults also, even the strange bridge from this famous ship is well represented.

Thanks... though we did you one-better then the main and secondary armament... the triterairy armament is there too... besides the six 280 mm (11 inch) main guns, the eight 150 mm (5.9 inch) secondary guns, you'll also note the six 105 mm (4.1 inch) AA gun mounts.
