Thanks to bestshot for his help. He will be getting one adequate ship for his help.

The age of sailing has come and gone, the newer iron and steel ships have moved in, wars are waged between steel behemoths, but people still yearn for a faster way to cross the vast oceans between the Old world and the New World. Goods still take forever on old iron transport ships, companies are floundering and going out of business faster than men die on the battlefields, a solution was needed and one was provided. A man has built a ship that can withstand the weather conditions met at sea, these ships use coal to generate power and can reach a top speed of 20 knots, but the man died shortly afterwards and no body knew his name. His design was never patented and would be shipping companies jumped on the designs and revolutionized the industry, you will be heading one of these companies. Can you make it to the top?

Rules:

Captain Morale: Captain Smith, went down with ship. Captain Monroe, ok.

Head of Company:

Your head of company is your leader, he is the face of your company.

Morale:
Crew morale is based on wages.
Actions of captain.
Weather conditions
Problems with ship.
Etc….

Captain Morale:
Based on wage paid to captain.
Type of ship under his command. (some captains want to command newer ships than older ships)
Stituation onboard ship.
Crew attitude.
Passenger attitude.

Economy:
I have decided to use realy world money to make it appear more realistic, I chose to use this because it would make it easier to distribute money around into various places that don’t need as much cash, I.E Engineers and Captains as contrary to employees and ship costs.
Cruise lines will use Ticket Sales as their main money avenue. The more tickets you sell the more cash flows in. You can raise or lower the price of tickets if you wish.
Shipping lines will use Contracts from the Government or private companies that need to move their cargo. This is their main money avenue.
Fishing Companies will use sales or Contracts, at first the Fishing companies will have to rely on local sales to get by, but as their fish become better known, or despised, a contract may be lurking on the horizen.

Wages:
You have to pay your employees enough money to keep the ship running and your passengers happy. Your Employees are chefs, Sewards, porters, coal tenders etc…. everything your ship needs to keep running. Cruise Liners may expect a higher price because they have more employees to cover, but the better you take care of them the more happier your passengers would be to use your line again. Shipping Industries have the fewest of them all as they don’t have passengers to worry about.

Captain Wages are separate because most lines may want to hire a certain captain and can steal one from a rival line with a higher pay or better ship. Engineers are the same.
The number in parathensis next to the captains name is his rating, 1 is bad, 10 is great. Obvliously the better a captain is the higher his pay will be. Larger lines may be able to afford a 10 rated captain, and those are rare, if you get one hold on to him if you want your line to be used more, as more people will rather want to use a ship that has a great captain than one who has a lousy captain. The higher ranking captains can utilize sea lanes arrive at their destinations faster than most because of their knowledge of ports, sea lanes, weathers and fishing captains can find fishing sites and cram more shipments through that other captains cannot.

Engineers are rated the same. Engineers fix up minor problems in a ship, like Engine trouble or a leak etc… The better an engineer is the bigger a job he can do without forcing the ship to dock and calling in a team of engineers to fix it at the company’s expense.

You bank account will hold what money you did not spend and save it. After one year has passed my Math genius friend will add interest towards it and you can see your money grow.

Ships:

Container, Tanker, Car Transporter Ships: Basic 500K, 100 employees; Adequate 1 million, 100 employees; Top of the Line 2 million, 200 employees.
Tankers and Car Transporters will come when the tech is researched by a company.

Fishing Boats: Basic 10K, 12 employees; Adequate 100K, 14 employees; Top of the Line Trawlers 500K, 16 employees.

Cruise Ships: Basic 500K, employs 2,000 sailors; Adequate 1.5 Million, employs 3,000 sailors; Top of the Line 3 million, employs 4,000 sailors.
Certain ships will become available after techs are researched.

Research:
You can research new technology to give you an edge in the race to beat your competitors. Most techs help make the ships themselves better. Others focus more on Passenger control and cargo shifting.

Mergers:
You can choose to merge with a larger company if you are struggling. A merger means that the company who is accepting the merger will keep their name and brand, while the company who is merging into the other company can continue to run but under the new name and brand of the larger company.
Hostile Takeovers are possible as well, in this a company is completely bought out and incorporated into the company doing the takeover. Not like Mergers, the company being faced with a Hostile Takeover will lose their company and will have find another job or found another company.

Players have no control over their captains, only the ship. Shipping lines have to choose their cargo for each ship but the captains choose how to get to the destination.

Shipping starts with 1 basic ship and 250,000 dollars.
Cruise lines start with 1 basic ship and 1 million dollars.
Fishing companies start with 1 basic ship and 10 thousand dollars.

Rules will be edited, it is still new. If you spot any problems or see anything that needs to be added please let me know.

Do not post until I say so.

Ships section updated with sailors employed on each ship, take into account this for your wage decision. You will choose how much to pay your sailors, but remember that other companies may offer higher pay and the employees may leave to work for them instead. But keep your wages realistic so they dont go on strike.

The West Coast Fishing Company would like to offer Captain Larry Anderson $400 for every trip, should he come to work for us, and Engineer Eric Ericson $250 for every trip, if he would come to work for us, too. Both have chances at pay increase for doing good, efficient work.

I thought I had it posted, but you pay your crew, captain and engineers at the end of every trip. So dont give them ridicously high wages.

what would be reasonable prices?
