I know fairly little about computers, but I'm looking to buy a new one for less than $650. Being a college student, I thought I should get a new laptop, but I've found I never take my current laptop on campus. The times I do bring it around places I'm sure it would suffice. Plus, desktops seem to be able to get more for their money and have more available upgrades.
The big questions I have are:
What brand should I get? I've heard mixed reviews about a lot of brands like HP and Dell.
Should I get a laptop or desktop? Laptops are more portable, but the desktops I've looked at are more upgradable (processor and RAM)
The bulk of things I'd be doing on this computer would just be basic functions, like internet and documents for school. I'd also like it to be able to run Civ III and iTunes without being slow. Not too heavy usage.
