Our only worker has a lot of tasks to do. He needs to build roads, he needs to irrigate, he needs to build mines.

What should we order him to do first ? I suppose roading the irrigated wheat he is on now. But then ?

Please post your thoughts.

I want to poll this as well, if necessary.

The river messes things up so that the most productive sequence in terms of shields is less productive for worker turns. Even with a couple of turns lost to river crossings, I think the optimum is:

  • Road the wheat where we're standing
  • move to the undeveloped bonus grass
  • mine and road
  • move to a hill (choice depends on new settlements)
  • mine & road
  • move to a floodplain
  • irrigate & road
  • too many decisions remaining beyond this point to say what we should do

If we're after a settler factory, the objective is to get to +5 food (already there) and 2 out of every 4 turns at 8 shields (other two at 7 shields), with a granary. And hope that disease doesn't hit.

DaveShacks's approach looks good to me too - although depending on when our settler is built it might be worth considering whether to mine then road or road then mine to get the settler into position as quickly as possible. Probably won't get as far as the floodplain until next session, but if we do then the one NW of the Wheat would allow us to extent our route W a bit more quickly.

I am definately in agreement with DaveShack's analysis up to point 5 at least. We may want to reconsider at that point.

I'm still not in favor of a granary though. We'll have enough problems not going into unhappiness as it is.

I think we should irrigate the wheat we are standing on First then road THEN go to BG to Mine and road. Why wait. Then after we should go immediatly to floodplain for more food. Why wait? Food is important if we want a settler factory. And dont we want one? We should road and irrigate atleast three floodplains before moveing then go for shields. So then we will have an instant population 3-4 then with shields we will begin settler production. Plus we will have alot of money, sinse we get more money from working on the river.

I think the wheat is already irrigated. Whether we choose to emphasize growth or production we will be using the second bonus grassland within four or five turns. I suggest we skip the road on the tile for now and move directly to the second bonus grassland, mine it and then road it.

Although I would nomally build a road before moving off the tile, in this case not doing so does not give us any movement penalty as we have to cross the river anyway.
Not building the road now would get the bonus grassland developed 2 turns earlier for the loss of the 1gold/turn commerce that the road on the wheat would generate. We can build the road on the wheat when we move through to develop the other tiles on that side of the river.
