Basically, I moved up from the easy level to the second easy level because the tech progression was too slow. I like to feel that I am keeping up, or at least surpassing, history with the tech in mind. Yet, I found that once I moved up I immediatly began getting whooped in the tech race.

I am playing Japan, so maybe not having the Scientific stuff matters, but in the game I am playing I immediatly run into the Persians (violent civ). When I try to trade I notice that they already have about four more techs than I do, and I only have three! I bribe them for communications and eventually have contact with five civs, all of whom are way ahead of me.

So, I focused on getting the great library. Started building the pyramids until I got Lit., switched over, and got it. From it I got about 7 techs in the first turn! And, about 1 every five turns.

I have my science tax slider thingy as high as I can, about 80% in monarchy, I have a library in every town, and am still getting tromped on.

The one mistake I did make was that early on I began trading techs for techs. Should I have said screw them and just of done the library thing? If I haden't would I be in war now, especially since they demanded the trades?

What are some good strats for a non-Sci. civ to stay above in the tech race? Even on the easy levels...

Also, can you see what the other civs are researching? Hate losing research time by the library stepping in 1 turn from a tech discovery with that discovery!

When do you get the science specialist?

Any help would be great.

Taxes should be at 100, don't worry about science a bit, make the AI do it for you! If you want a scientist specialist zoom to a city take away a tile a citizen is working on and then an entertainer will appear click on the entertainer until it is a scientist
