Getting killed and I dunno why

Looking for someone to shed a little light. Post patch I have been getting my ass handed to me on Regent level. Previously I did very well on Monarch and even played a bit of Emperor. What changes to playing style are needed PP (post patch) to be successful. I haven't enough time to play as it is (job and all) and I am just looking to short circuit the learning curve a bit. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunatley I can't shed any light on the problem. I mainly replied to empathize and corroborate your experience. I've been playing at Warlord up until the 1.17 patch. Then on a whim I decided to play the GOTM this month on monarch. Wow! I got my ass kicked quickly. So I tried again, same result. I then loaded a similiar game on Regent level and won two games in a row.

Well, after the 1.17f patch the AI trade tech very fast at a very early stage. So you need to generate as much cash as possible at the beginning and start to buy all the tech you can when you meet those AI

I realise that as when you meet the AI post patch they are usually 4-5 tech ahead of you and thats in Ancient time! So keep trading until you have a tech lead.

Be sure to trade techs as much as possible, especially in the Ancient Age.
