Giant Earth Map for ViSa

It's ok for me :)

@Bastian-Bux

The error was totally my fault I erased some files under My Documents\My Games, the NCSaver files

I've been running everything for a long game now and haven't had any issues what so ever! :D
Great job with the map and everythign ofcourse; thanks again!!
Looking forward to more of your releases. :)

:bump:

Could you please consider making an Earth map that is about 125x80, please?

I really love the Huge Earth and the Civs you selected are great!! :D
After playing for (way to long) countless hours and filling the map up cities and armies the turns would take up to three mintues, plus I'd get the odd MAF every dozen turns or so. Just to much of a good thing I guess.

It would be great to have something like Huge Earth on a smaller more manageable scale.
I think 125x80 would be more than enough; though, I'm no map maker.

My Civ suggestions: I really like the main Civs, like the ones you selected for Europe (7 - England, Spain, France, Germany, Rome, Greece, Netherlnd.. [I played Germany]) and Asia (5or6 - Russia, China, Japan, Korea, India).
1 to 2 for the middle east, 2 to 3 for Africa (Egypt, Shaka, Carth), then 2 for each America (Aztec, Maya, Cherokee, Inca).
Throw in 1 for Australia, and New Zealand, and you still have some room.

Even if you loaded it with 25 that'd be great; easy to kill a few off before civs grow to much. :thanx:

OK, after much testing and frustration, I've got bad news:

I'll give up on this map.

The reason is easy: Win XP Home Edition can't accept more then 2 GB of RAM, as the 3GB switch does only work for the professional version. Thus I'm always suffering from a shortage of RAM (despite the BIOS aknowledging my 3GB).

What I will do next, is trying to get my hands on nice, more managable maps.

I'm already nagging strategyonly to make me some nice equal-area cylindrical maps following the Craster projection (least distortion at 37°).

For now my next aim is to find a Standard or Large map, that is good enough for my taste, so that I can work from there.

I would like to suggest you try to modify the following huge Earth map for Visa. It is a huge map, but not so big as to cause MAF problems, and it is really quite nice, so it is my favorite map.

Description
This is a huge earth map with all 24 civs, it differs from the 'standard' map with an expanded Europe to give those civs a little breathing room and various modified land to help gameplay. Since even this expanded Europe is pretty crowded, I placed the Celts in SE Asia where there's a resource-rich gap between China and India.

This map owes a lot to Niust's Realism map, which I used as the base, and which comes from Rhye's original huge earth map.

Note: To use this map, you need to be running Warlords with a 24 civ mod; it won't work with vanilla Civ4 or Warlords. The simplest way is to get this is to download and install Rhye's 24 civ mod from here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downlo...do=file&id=175

Giant/Huge/Large maps are always a big risk unless you are back on Win2000....that is the only OS that Firaxis really supports, no matter what their marketing people release....

Good suggestion, but above what a mere map maker like me can do. ^^

If the ViSa team would apply such a python solution, I'd surely use it ^^.

My suggestion on this would be to change two "files"

a) design a python that can place additional resources if the following conditions are met

1) the resource can only be placed in the old world if it is a new world resource, and vice versa
2) all climate restrictions apply
3) resources can only be placed inside the cultural border of a nation that has access to that resource already, either due to a colony, or due to trade
4) resources can only be placed if there is a building using that resource (stable and such) is "nearby"

b) Change the terra map script to include a requirement of "new_world" or "old_world" for certain resources additional to the climate limits. So terra maps would be even more similar to real terran restrictions. And if you are at it: five civs a flag about their origin, so that placement would be a bit more realistic ^^.

Hi. Its great you guys do all this work and Visa is fantastic. Question though.... How do I install the world map (rar file) on to Visa to play???
