AIDS. Malaria is a more regionally isolated illness.

Malaria, the people who get aids have only themselves to blame.

So a baby who gets it from an infected mother is to blame? How about the guy who gets from his dentist because his dentist didn't know? Or the woman who gets it from her husband after he got it from his mistress?

To get aids you need to share body fluids, anyone who does this is stupid. I sympathise as much with them as I do with people who die will standing infront of a moving truck.

Same is true for Malaria...

An irresponsible having the disease don't watch for mosquitos because he doesn't care, and then another irresponsible get the disease because he doesn't care if the same mosquito sucks his blood afterwards. And anyway, they are already all irresponsible to live in a tropical climate: if you go out when it's raining, don't be surprised to get wet.

Mosquitoes are really hard to avoid but sharing the same suringe is easy to avoid.

Interestingly, malaria is on the rise again. It's not a regional thing. And if global warming gets worse....

I just gave you examples of how people get it unknowingly and unwillingly. Yet you still say its their fault.

Why do I even bother to try reasoning.

I said malaria because, to a degree you can try to educate your self out of AIDS

malaria is different; when I went camping in Mexico I allways had 100s of bites on my arm in the morning from the mosquitos, it was not a big deal to everyone else because they don't have any diseases people there arn't immune against and most people born there do not get marks. I ended up getting huge red welts all over my arm.

In order to keep from getting bitten you need like 30 bucks a month worth of anti mosquito stuff (whether it be the creams or burning things (called rayalitos in Mexico I don't recall there name in English )

Either that or a lot of coconuts

In any case some of these people live off of less than a dollar a day so malaria is tough for them. The nets are a good investment for them (allthou expensive too but it is more or less a one time purchase)

There was a talk somewhere on TED that said you get more "bang for you buck fighting malaria" - I'll look for it.

* I think fighting aids is important too.

Moderator Action: I wouldn't bother. Trolls only grow if you feed them.

Ok a few people in the 80s where killed by mistake, my teachers dad had a slow painfull death that way. The vast majority of aids victims have contributed to it themselves. If you have unprotected sex in south africa with a stranger don't be surprised when you get aids.

I guess I would give for the one needing it the most... though I reckon I've never donated for any of both. The only donations I've ever made to fight a disease were against cancer and myopathy.

Because your reasonably mentally stable ;)

Yea... Malaria is easier to deal with and lets face it... I'm a North Western European the only mosquitos I have to worry about come over in shipping containers... oh bugger... but still... I could get spat on or stuck by a junkie any day...

AIDS needs more funding otherwise the only reasonable option is license busting Brazilian and Thai drugs... and no one likes taking money from bloated pharmacutical corporations do they...

Malaria is treatable whereas AIDS is not so I would rather give my money to a cause that will give good results than to one that might give good results.

Malaria is treatable because we figured out how to treat it. We can do that with AIDS too. Only it's not cheap.

(Well, AIDS is already treatable, it's just not curable yet.)
