You live in Melbourne. You should know what our dear ALP government has tried to do. How many extra legislations have they passed, all of which have caused nothing but trouble? Malaysian non-solution (hammered by the High Court as unlawful), IR laws causing THREE TIMES the amount of union strikes, alcopops tax, numerous greenie idiocies, BER scheme, do I have to go on?

Even the Carbon Tax is nothing but more legislation that does nothing except to keep their cronies employed. Think about it. They are taxing you so that 50+% of it can go back to the people as "compensation". They are creating a massive new bureaucracy (i.e., government department) to do it. Where do you think that remaining 50% they collect is going to? Keeping the bureaucracy afloat. This is the same government that in NSW has over 600+ people working for it that officially does NOTHING. What does the massive new department need? Laws and "guidelines", of course. More legislation than you can shake a stick at.

This is typical of a socialist government. In the name of "being good for the society", they legislate everything. Soon, you will need special dispensation to wipe your butt after taking a dump (the act of which will require an environmental approval). They will have to vett your paper to ensure that it comes from a sustainable source first.

Wow, it's been a lot time since we've had a good socialism thread.

I don't know if this thread should be moved to the the humour and jokes section, or reported for grossly inaccurate "facts".

Also I wouldn't describe myself as a neo liberal but it's probably the best fitting label, and I find it hilarious/worrying to be called a socialist when neoliberalism goes hand in hand with private enterprise and the Washington consensus and such.

How about a thread with arguments that seem to be based almost entirely on psychological projection?

How is this socialism? If anything, the Left hates the Malaysian solution more than the Right.

Whether this is a bad thing depends on the reasons behind the strikes.

Don't see how this is necessarily a bad thing.

    Would you like to specify?

    Could've been better, I agree.

Oh please do go on, it's quite amusing.

They're not. They're taxing polluting businesses.

Which would be less necessarily if those polluting businesses do the right thing and reduce their emissions instead of passing the cost on to everyone else.

Maybe if society doesn't need regulating then then the government won't need to legislate, huh?

I wholeheartedly support any non-stupid legislation to ensure that toilet paper is made from sustainable sources. Environmental viability is a matter of national security.

thanks Grim for picking out that pearl ... Here in Denmark the neo-liberalists is a supporting part of the rightwing-government (together with the more traditional liberalists and three flavours of conservatism, neo, culture and national) ... how that'll fit AJ11's worldview, i have no clue about (and frankly, don't care, although i have suspicions), with a election just around the corner (next thusday) with the leading block is the reds, consisting of social-liberals, social democrats (equals Australias Labor), social people's party (equals Australias green) and the semicommunist red/greens. if theres something the neo-liberals hate, its those ... hardly fitting your opinion that neo-liberalism and them are one and same does it?

AJ11 thinks "neo-liberal" means "communist". Obviously here we have yet another case of people making up their own definitions.

I think we should start talking about Ecology, I'm concerned that there must be hallucinogenics being leaked in to the Australian water supply ;).

AJ11 makes Fox seem like a reputable left wing new source .

I think my tone was justified given that all of your 'evidence' is unsubstantiated ramblings.

    mhmm...

You can't go about holding an extreme position on something and then refuse to defend it to all challengers because they are typical enviro-socialists or apparently conveyed an unkind tone. This is a mark of high anti-intellectualism. In the face of such log-headed stubbornness and refusal to actually discuss the points that you put forward numerous times on a discussion board, I offer social censure:

AJ11, your position on in this thread is dumb, unfounded, completely unpersuasive and unjustified. To this point you've lost the argument and this is obvious to anyone who spent time reading through this thread.

So how do you feel about the homeless being rounded up for not being able to pay the carbon taxes that will not be applyed to the big companys but instead will be applyed to small companys and individuls, in corupt goverments taxes/laws/anything done never goes where said, the bigger the goverment structure/bureaucracy the harder it is to keep coruption out.

May I ask, do you also think Obama is an alien reptile sent to destroy us? because that's that is on par with the lunacy contained in your post.

I wonder why people think the same problems with big government with regard to bureaucracy and corruption do not occur in big business.

Anyone who has ever tried to get money from their insurance agency will back me up on this one.

Sadly it seems we will have to wait a while longer. I am bored, so I will humor these Civ 4 people, so far from home in the wild lands of OT, where people actually understand the concepts they talk about in some vague sense.

It's funny, because I always thought that it was capitalism that produced a class of people who contribute nothing to society, while people work tirelessly to support them.

But then again I also thought that the maxim of socialism was "those who work, eat." What do I know.

And this is bad for what reason, exactly? You propose what alternative, let people do whatever they want, they can test their own food for botulism and judge themselves whether their car is a lemon?

The fantastic thing about this post is that, apart from the part where neo-liberals are equivalent to communists, it is almost precisely correct. Obviously unintentionally so.

Because I am a merciful man, I will do you the favor of informing you that neo-liberalism is a conservative movement which arose in a reaction to increasingly leftist policies being pursued by liberal parties in the United States, which the neo-liberals saw as approaching socialist tendency. So to say that neo-liberals, who are some of the most ardent anti-communists on the face of the earth, are, in fact communists, is a bungle of the utmost hilarity.
