UPDATE 1: Enter the Gnome
- The emergence of Gnomish Civlization in the Johnson familly yard.
-The entire lawn is marked the by the remarkable growth of Gnomish civlization, many sprouting from smaller, nomadic Gnomish band wandering the many neighbords of the great human edifice known as "Suburb", at least the Gnomes. Gnomes had not had a huge presence int he area until recentlly, when the Jones's a new familly, moved into a new home; bringing thier great sacred icons with them, and thus attacting many a Gnomish band to settle in thier lawn.
Immediatelly, two disting areas of Civlization, in the souther lands of the lawn attacted many a settler, though th enorther reaches, while far more sparse in population, were not neglected either.
In the Souther lands, the Region fo the great lakes saw many a new nation be born, some like the White wall empire came out powerfully, but stagnited due to problems with leadership, and thier ability to manage th epopulation; other, such as the Gnomes of the twin monoliths came out powerfully, and stayed out, expanding thier boundaries, creating new settlments, and generally having a good time of things, and the same coudl be said for all the areas really.
Looking into the matter some, some natiosn rose above other in this time of settelment and exploration;
The Twinmonolith Gnomes expanded thier domian, and thier workforce; though the leadership has misguided notions about undergorund settlments, and the population soon showed him stright, that Gnomes do not live underground; else they would be Kobolds, and nobody likes Kobolds. Establishign theselves well, the nation is weary of a Gnomish nation that seems to be to thier south, though no contact has yet been made, a nation poised to gobble up thier territory around the great Sea Gnome idol, a particuler favorite of many a Gnome in the twin monolith nation.
To the South, amidst great mountians, or rather, far below them, a nation callign itself, accutatelly enough, the Forest Gnomes get started, and what a start they have! Almost at the get-go, these intrepid Gnome slearn the ways of the forest, including how to cultivate mushrooms, and so quite nicelly, gorwing a lucrative famring buisness, and whiel thier economy has slumped due to all the farming activity should soem fo the great Shrooms be harvested, or patiencte allow for the treasury to gain gold agian on its, the forest Gnomes wil have a pleasent situation indeed.
Though the dark of the forest always threatens, and one never knows what fierce beasts will emerge from its shadowy depths.
To the West of the Monolithic Gnomes, a Gnome of a different colour, so to speak, has established itself quite nicelly, nustled agiast the great House of the demigods, intrepid Gnomes, the seek to find a use for the "lint" that ocasionally is deposited on a semi-reguler basis close by them; while they have not mastered its use, they have expanded thier domain, and are getting along quite nicelly.
To the far reaches fo the North of the Monolithic Gnomes, are, the apptlly named
Rubbish heap Gnomes, of the north, and they too have had a lucky, if somewhat durty, streak of fortune; they have estbalished themselves wuite nicelly, a wonderful little town right in th emidst of the great rubbish heap, and expanded thie rlands out sid eof it as well; while doing so, they hath found a wonderful treasure; Shrooms! while not learning how to master the art of thie rplantation, these shrooms are a wonderful boon, surelly sent form the great Gnomish gods; soem though is given to trying to expand tot he south to incorperate one fo the great idols inside of thier territory; though soem even say to truelly show the gods thier thanks, that they must build for themselves a great stature- perhaps composed of rubbish- to show the great Gnome gods thier thanks. mThey also find an abundenc eo finsec tlife, but as of yet, have been unable to master it in any fashion. Perhaps more dilligent study, and soem money thrown at it woudl help.
to the Far West of the Monoliths, another Gnomish civlization, fancying for itself a holy brandih has settled down, and marked thier own spot; directll next to one fo the great icons, they fell grea tpride, and many feel that that they shoudl save up thier eocnomy, to build a great shrine- perhaps one that would gain many vistiors, going to make deidcatiosn tot he gods, and so increse the economy of thie rland- thie ris also the rampant sentiment that all of the icons shoudl be held by them, and them alone.
Finally, to the far, far North and west, we perhaps have the most interesting Gnomes of the moment, very ambitious, but not very thought out; the Gnomes fo the Great tree.
The leaders of this civlization had many ambitious plans,\and indeed, some, liek expansion, were followed through to the letter; though the drain on the economy was significent, leaving no immediate funds for either follow up expansion, or betterment of thier society.
Though, ot that end, they have learned the art of sheild making, and thier formation march in oerfec tprescision across the grassy gnools of thier home turf, thier weapons sharpend by careful hardening over an open flame.
But that was not the disaster that befell them; no, the leaders of thei stribe made a very bad mistake- they commited high blasphemy, and thie rpopulation woudl have none of it; it stated simply enough; a merchant, and Holy class were created, witht he intention of bindign the nation more throughlyl together economically, and socially, andindeed, at first it worked; but new setltments spread th emerchants apart, and without good connection between the setltments, that merchants did not worktogether for mutual betterment, but began competing agiast one another, acting more like local lords- and enimies- then companions.
it was though then, by th enobility, that a common bond of culture woudl help cement realtions; being far removed (and perhaps somwhat jealous) of the souther Gnomes who could claim direct control over the great idols, the nobility deicded that they could implement a subsitute, thier great tree, that gave them so many resources, and shelter from harsh weather- after all, the peasents woudl simply follow the nobility, right?
wrong
The holy Gnomes created to spread the new religion were slaughterd- the common gnomes considered the new religion complete blashphemy, and let the nobility know it! To make the situation worse, when the holy men bagen being escorted by soldires, they too were attacked, and bloodied, and feuds by the rival merhanct came into play, supporting different factions, be it nobility, and thie rnew religion, or the common Gnomes, and thier clinging to the true ways.
the civil war was bloody, but short; the Roylaty soon abandoned any attmepts to try to center off the religion from the icons, and the religious and cultural hopes in that regard were smashed; the merchants are still thier, but no one knows what to do with them yet; soem even speak of them spittlign off, and formign thier own Gnomish nation around the great tree....
