The question is simple and I guess the answer is just as much, warmongers which tree do you take after finishing Authority?

Piety? Capitalize on your investment in religion and trade?

Statecraft? Enances the benefits of City-state friendship and Global Diplomacy?

Aesthetics? Improve you ability to generate culture and tourism?

Statecraft strikes me as the most powerful in every instance, but I have a myopic perspective on that section of the game right now.

If you managed to get a good pantheon along the way (or conquerd a good pantheon/religion), I´d go Piety.
Otherwise, you are not forced to take a medivial tree. Liberty is often just fine.

It will unlock imperialism / industry / rationalism? That's really good to know.

It will not, you'd have to get to Renaissance.

I brought this up before, but it really should. I mean there is already a 'point-system' for finishing policy-trees, let having 2 points give you access to renaissance trees.

Interesting perspectives because it could permits to get for example Progress or Tradition starter when you are 2/5 or 3/5 Authority and the culture gain begin to be ridiculous.

Piety is great because you can get happiness from temples which are easy to build and provide good faith. Also just tons of free yields. And scientist specialist slots!

Statecraft has the same thing but with Chanceries while also helping in the CS department. Since you'll probably have all the AIs hating you you might need the votes, but on the other hand maybe you just want to conquer the CS or there aren't many nearby you. Chanceries also don't provide base yields and are harder to build than Temples, but you can probably afford to work the specialist slots with all those puppets you'll have.

Aesthetics is useful because it gives you the culture you desperately need as a warmonger, but its not synergistic. Also has the same happiness thing with Opera Houses, though those come much later and are much harder to build. I think this is by far the worst of the 3 options, but it isn't strictly bad. Tons of culture might mean you can get through Imperialism (for the world conquest), Rationalism (for the sit back and win with my huge empire), or Industry (for a little of both) very quickly. The happiness boost in Industry from luxuries can be critical to a world conquest.

Stetecraft for CS Alliances seems solid, especially if you have a CS/trade oriented civ. Also CS become a city that's usually flanking your enemy cities during wars.

I'd go back to Liberty or Tradition to try and patch up and improve my spread out holdings. Unless I have a religion or lots of good city states in the area, I just ignore the medieval trees.
