Is it better to have a revolution during or after a golden age. Many times I acheive either communism or republic while in a golden age. Should I wait? Or what?

During Anarchy, you don't recieve any production or gold from your cities so it would be better to capitulized on the extra shield and gold the golden age provides after the anarchy period is finished.

Not all the time. It all depends on the form of government you are in before the anarchy and what type you are moving into. Not to mention the type of civ you are (Religious). There may be times when the bonus productions after the anarchy period is greater than any lost production during anarchy.

But, unless you know the insides of the program in such a way that you can figure all this, it is better to just wait until after Anarchy.

soemthing about golden ages, do they prevent war weariness/unhappiness?

Nope. However, they do provide more commerce, which if you're using the luxury slider, means that more people are happy.

If your religious civ, I would revolt. Other than that, you are looking at 6~8 turns of anarchy. Since your GA is only 20 turns.... You are wasting most of your time in anarchy.

Make better plans for the future.

You should try and control when you get a golden age. Obviously, you are also in control when you will revolt.
Try revolting BEFORE your golden age.

If a new government becomes available during your golden age (and you couldnt have planned it to be available before your golden age) i think will usually be more beneficial to wait until the golden age has ended. Exeption would be if you start your golden age in despotism (which is something you should try to prevent anyway)

Many races have UU's that will give a golden age in the beginning of the middle ages (the most popular time for a golden age) These are the replacements for knights and the swiss merc for example. With these civ's, you first make sure you are in republic asap, and then you start fighting with your UU to get a golden age.

Some other races have very early golden ages with UU's that replace warriors, swordsmen or horsemen. If you are gonna be at war (with your UU) early, you will have a despotic golden age (which is partly wasted since ever 3th resource is negated under despotism) If intensive early wars are not part of your strategy plans, you might choose not to use your UU at all until you are in republic. Then after you are in republic, use you UU to finish a weakened enemy unit to get your golden age. If you do fight early, then that might be the situation where revolting in your golden age might be good.

For the races with UU's later than early middle ages, you should already be in a reasonable government form, and you can always plan further revolts te be not into your golden age (before or after, but not during)

I left wonders out of the picture now, because at higher levels not only are they not worth building, you also wont get a chance at buildign them anyway. At low levels, you just have to get over it and dont build any wonders that get you into a golden age you dont want.

Golden age is also something to think about when choosing your race. While of course the map can affect your strategy, most players create a game with a strategy and play style in mind. (Like i start every game with the intention of getting a conquest victory)
