GoobNES01: Fallout - Update 13 "From the ashes . . . "
World Weekly News - July 18th, 1969
India allows some Democracy, more Freedoms!
Following the trends by other Communist nations, India is the latest nation to allow some Freedoms, and partial Democracy. These reforms are coming slowly, much too slow for some, and, for the Communists, much, much too fast. The first step was taken when the Government allowed the Media to be "Objective, but not critical" in their reporting. This means, essentially, that the Indian Media can report on what happens honestly and fairly, but not critisize the Government. This is a fairly large step forward for India, but it was not the first that they took. Regional elections were held in many cities around India, and, though the candidates were all Independents, and were not allowed to be from any particular party, this has caused many Indians to reminencse the good old days when India was a Democracy, before the Fascist and Communist Governments. India has also allowed peole to protest, as long as they apply for permission before, and has allowed political parties to form, but not campaign - yet. This is a major step forward for India, and most analysts say that all signs point to India holding democratic elections, perhaps within the next 6 months. It seems that India is following a trend of some major Communist nations, and allowing freedoms, and democracy. Indians have spontaneously made democrations supporting the Government, and urging them towards full Democracy. There have been protests by the Communists and Fascists, demanding, well, Communist and Fascist, or DemoFascist, at least, states. Stability in India has gone up one level, and the Indian economy has gone up to, as Foreign Investors start investing in India.
USE starts major Capitalization Initiative
The United States of Europe is undergoing a major Capitalization project, in which they are selling off many state-owned busineeses, like the state-owned Media companies, Oil Companies, and all the rest. They kept shares in most companies, but mainly auctioned off most of them. This has produced some major investment in the USE, which has come a long way from its days of Franco being the Supreme Fascist Leader. The only problem now is that these formally state-owned monopolies are now privately-owned monopolies, although new businesses are spring up, they are small. There has been an economic benefit for the USE, but, as long as these companies remain in one companies hands, and competition is not occuring, the USE economy will not do as well as it should be doing. The USE Government has also been doing some major reconstruction efforts in the USE, which also helped boost the economy.
AF employs new tools to bring down ALF, mostly a success
The African Federation, after seeing the devastating effect by the ALF upon their economy, has come out with a series of new tools to bring down the ALF, and ensure the security of the African Federation. They have created a Military Police, which is a better trained and armed Police Force that takes over the role of policing in "hot" areas, or areas with conflict. These officers have been fairly effective at stemming the growing conflict between ethnic and religious groups, and halting the flow of weapons around the country. The USAPATRIOT Act, combined with the payments given out for information about ALF have been the most effective at curbing the ALF's activities, which included arming and funding groups to start conflicts, and their campaign of bombings. In a fairly major blow to the ALF, the AF was able to find a major cache of their bombs and weapons, and arrest several high-ranking members, but not their leader, who managed to escape. About 1 eco of stolen money was also found. Furthermore, the ALF's attempts to build and launch an ICBM were curtailed after the factory at which they were trying to construct the weapon was raided by AF Troops.
New Universities in Phillipines, Dominican Republic attract thousands of Students
Students from around the world are flocking to the new Universities just completed in the Philippines and Domonican Republic, which are among the best in the world. These Universities have attracted some of the best teachers in the world, and have large and plentiful classrooms, and resources for students. For some of the Students, the culture and climate were a bit of a shock, but, as this student from the Inuit Confederacy, Jwaal Klingit says, "Once you get used to the weather and the culture, this is a very bueatiful University. Everything is new, and first class.". The Philippines got a slight boost in their income, and the local economies went up.
MORO demands seperate Muslim State in the Philippines
A new political force has started in the Philippines, the MORO Liberal Front, who are a group of Muslim activists that are demanding that the Southern Portion of the Philippines, with a Muslim Majority be granted Independence. They have not yet turned to violence, but there are indications that they might to get their way. They are also asking for "help from all our Muslim brothers for our Independence".
Unrest, violence continues in Poland, as Government calls election
In Poland, things seem to be going from bad to worse. but, all is not bad news. Protests, demonstrations, riots, and general chaos have been continuing throughout the country, and riot police have been cracking down, but have not been all that effective. The majority of the violence is being caused the about 15-20% of the population that support Communism, and most suspect that the Russian Federation has a role to play in the violence, but they, of course, deny it. The Polish Government has appealed for calm, and is announcing that, in 4 months time, they will hold "free, fair, and democratic elections, that shall be done by the International Confederacy to ensure fairness, IF and only IF the violence ends". Troops from around the world have come to Poland, probably because those Governments don't want Poland to slip into Communism. In some public opinion polls, roughly 60% of Poles say that they will vote for the right-wing Polish National Party, that promises that Poland will be a "DemoFascist nation, like our friends and allies in South America, and the rest of Europe". Support for the party has grown dramatically, as Poles want the violence to end, but also want for them to not be under the rule of Communists again. The Democratic Party has about 20% support, and the Communist Party the rest. The violence has been having a negative effect upon the Polish economy, however.
Fascist wins in Finland and Germany!
DemoFascist has taken root in 2 more nations, Finland and Germany, as what is being dubbed the "DemoFascist Revolution" takes hold around the world. In Finland, the recent elections proved to be between the far right, Fascist, and the far left, Communism. The Communists were the noisiest, and had the most advertisements, but, in the end, they just didn't have the support that the Fascists had. The National Fascist Alliance took 58% of the vote, the moderate Democracy, Peace, and Freedom Party took 10% of the vote, and the Communists took 30% of the vote. In Germany, the scene was similar, but a much, much larger win for the Fascists. An astonishing 89% of voters turned out for these elections, and, of them, 80% voted for the Fascists. Germany also announced that they are no longer part of the CC, and, in a surprising turn of events, the new German Chancellor thanked the people of the Russian Federation for "aiding Germany in her time of need", and promised that the "German people will be eternally grateful."
Communism wins in Quebec and Greece!
In Quebec and Greece, the almost exact opposite of what happened in Finland and Germany occurred, elections in those 2 countriers yielded Communist victories. In Quebec, the Communist Party won by a landslide, taking 79% of the vote, and all but 2 seats in the National Assembly. The Fascists didn't even make it on the ballot in some places, and the ruling Parti Quebecois was seen as "old and corrupt" by many. The Communist Party in QUebec promises to "keep the Quebec principle of Democracy alive, and combine that with the rights and freedoms granted by Communism for all the brave Quebec Workers." Quebec has announced that they are withdrawing from the AA, and joining the CC. In Greece, however, the campaign was different. Their Communist Party fought hard, staged massive rallies, and even threatened violence if they didn't win. They have been widely accused of tampering with the vote, and forcing people to vote for them or else. In that very unDemocratic election, they won 53% of the vote, and a bare majority in the Greek Legislature. Then, the newly elected President declared himself absolute ruler, and disbanded Parliament, and shredded the Greek Constitution on National Television, calling it a "disgrace to the Greek Workers". He is ruling the country with an iron fist, supressing demonstrations, and has taken away many rights, freedoms, and liberties. Both Greece and Quebec have are allying to join the CC.
Chaos in the UIS as terrorist campaign starts
In the UIS, things have gone from bad to worse, although nobody knows why. Seemingly random killings have taken place, and bombings of infrastructure have been rampant. This is a blow for the UIS, who was organizing Democratic Elections. Most nations in the UIS did hold elections, and the results were surprising in some countries. Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan have all elected Governments that declared themselves to be "FundoSocialist", which is a new type of Government, or so they claim, which combines elements of Communism and Fundamentalism. There are elections for a Parliament, so it is somewhat democratic, but the Parliament suggests Laws, and there is an unelected President chosen by "God/Allah/whomever himself". In the other nations, they have elected Governments which have mostly written Democratic-based Constitutions, although the random violence has seemed to slowed the process down. UIS Governments have pledged to "overcome the terror that is being played out by these treacherous terrorists". UIS economies have been hit by the bombings and assassinations, and people are scared. The Governments have responded by imposing martial law, and encouraging "all good Muslims to find and kill these terrorists". Some of the terrorists have reportedly been captured, but no word on where they are from.
Costa Rica and El Salvadore attacked, annexed by the JCF!
The Central American nations of El Salvadore and Costa Rica have been attacked and annexed by the Joint Communist Force! The attack came as a total surprise, as the JCF used Helicoptiers and paratroopers in a blitz attack that gave the El Savadore army little to no time to react. And they attacked in overwhelming numbers as well. In Costa Rica, since Costa Rica didn't have an army, it was not so much of an invasion as walking in, and taking over control, blasting away any Police that tried to stop them. In fact, with Costa Rica now under the control of the Communists, they are the last nation in the world to not have an army. So far, no reaction has been heard from the USA or SADETO, but SADETO nations were seeming much more on edge, and most were increasing the size of their militaries, fearing that a CC-SADETO showdown is near.
Inuti Confederacy withdraws from AA!
With the recent elections in the Inuit Confederacy, the first ever, they have chosen to become a FundoSocialist state, and have withdrawn from the American Alliance, leaving that alliance, essentially, dead, and the USA without any allies, aside from Acadia, on its own continent. The USA, which is still rebuilding after the Russians left, has changed dramatically from its old days before 17/62, when it was the leader of the world, against the USSR. Now the USA seems more withdrawn, and isolationist. Many analysts say that this is a major mistake on the part of the USA, that they should have opposed the CER/RF, and been fighting for Democracy, and building alliances. Many also say that it might be too late for the USA to regain its former allies, and that the USA should join with SADETO and other DemoFascist nations to oppose Communism for once and for all. The Inuit have not applied to join the CC, apparently wanting to remain independent of the main alliances for the time being.
Unrest in Venezuela, Brazil quickly tamped down
A very short-lived insurgency broke out in Venezuela and Brazil, with Bombs exploding and bullets flying, but then the Venezuelan and Brazilian Armed Forces came in, and quickly tamped down the insurgencies. In fact, they were stopped so quickly that most Brazilians and Venezuelians didn't even know that anything was happening. Some infrastructure was ruining, but was rebuilt quickly.
Nuclear Torpedoes mysteriously take down India, Chinese Ships
In a strike that is very, very mystefying, somebody launched Nuclear Torpedoes at Chinese and Indian ships, and destroyed some of them. Chinese and Indian officials were very tight-lipped about the whole incident, all that we managed to find out is that a Nuclear torpedo was fired from either a Submarine or a ship, and took out some Chinese and Indian Naval ships. We have word from the indians and Chinese that "everything that we can do is bering done to find these cowards who have comitted this act".
Treatise of Japan released in Japan
The collection of writings by the Japanese Emperor Yu, Treatise of Japan, which is a series of documents saying, among other things, that Japan was once a great military power, and to regain that status, japan must invest in technology, not just military, has been published in Japan, and is a best seller. It has reminded the japanese people of their former greatness, and has caused people to form Volunteer Divisions in the Japanese Forces. There has also been a slight increase in the Japanese Economy as Japanese Nationalism soars.
Bolivian Civil War ends, Bolivia becomes DemoFascist!
Bolivia, the formerlly Communist nation surrounded by SADETO nation has emergedfrom its Civil War, and the new Government, which is an alliance, of sorts between the ex-General of the Bolivia Armed Forces, and the shadowy "Monarchist" group has resulted in Bolivia joining SADETO, and becoming a DemoFascist nation. Protests have erupted, by supporters of Communism, and by those that don't want to be in SADETO, but those are relatively few and far between. Mostly, Bolivians are thanking their lucky stars that they are alive, that their nation still exists, and that they are no longer under the clutches of their formerlly totalitarian communist regime.
Hungarian elections yield in win for Democracy
In Hungary, the mysterious Black Army organized and held election in that country, and they have elected a new leader, who is promising "Democracy and Freedom for all of the proud Hungarian People". Not much is known about this leader, but he was heavily financed, and ran quite a big and expensive campaign. Opposition Fascist and Communist parties won under 10% of the vote, and the Democracy Party won over 60% of the vote.
Petitions demand independence by Commonwealth Union colonies
The Commonwealth Union colonies of The Gambia, Jordan, and Qatar have all submitted petitions to the CU Parliament asking for Independence. These were timed as to be collected together, and the IC helped to verify the % of eligible voters in each colony which asked for Independence. In Jordan, the % was highest, with 30% of eligible voters signing the petition. In Qatar is was 25%, and in The Gambia is was 22%. We asked Political Analyst Jan van Der Hoop at the University of Bokhara, in Nepal, what this all means. "Well,, its quite simple, really. These colonies want their independence, and they figure that this is the best way to ask for it. The CU has a very good record when it comes to colonies, they have always invested in them, and in their economies, but these colonies have decided that it is time for their independence. One must remember though that these petitions do not mean that 30% or however many want independence, as it usually is with these things, the real number is far higher, perhaps 60-75%. These people are delivering a clear message to the CU, which is that they want independence, and they are asking politely now, but might not be so polite in the future. Clearly, this is a sign to the Cu that it is time to decolonize."
American Space Station downed by unknown Missile!
In a very tragic turn of events, the American Space Station has been downed by a very random missile. The missile slammed into the Space Station, destroying about half of it, and its main thrusters, which sent it into an unstable decreasing orbit. Eventually it went through the atmosphere, burned up, and the remains ended up high in the Andes mountains. The 2 Astronauts on board were killed, but thankfully no one on the ground was killed. Attention now turns to whom fired the missile. There was no launched reported at the time, so the missile does not appear to have come from the ground. This is a very tragic and mysterious series of events, and the American Leader has called for 2 days of mourning, and for revenge upon whomever did this "terrible and tragic act ot terrorism".
General Franco sweeps USE Election
In the USE Presidential Election, General Franciso Franco has won, and, predictably, by a landslide. The General ran a very tightly organized, and very well-run campaign, doing massive rallies in city after city for this 2 month campaign. He also did massive advertising campaigns, blitzing the empire from one end to another with nearly constant advertising. In fact, political analysts say that his campaign was one of the best that they have seen in a long time, and the USE people responded, backing Franco with about 74% of the vote. Far behind, but with a respectible 20% of the vote was Arnold Schwatznegger, the Austrian Bodybuilder whom many say might just be the next President of the USE. Harry Weinstein, of the opposition did very poorly, getting only 5% of the vote. The other 1% went to a pro-Muslim Candidate who is runing to try and ensure that the Muslim voice is heard.
