Russian Responce to the War

In Moscow Patriotic Music has been playing since morning and the city is preparing itself for the largest military parade in history. As citizens fill the Red Square, a place that has seen so much history it is hard to even imagine, the new President of Russia looks from his window. He stands on his office, motionless, just thinking. A young Leutenant comes in to inform him that everything is ready, and the president turns around and examines the officer. He is young and is a model for what an officer in the army should be. After almost a minute of silence the President asks: "Leutenant, if our country went to war and you had a choice would you fight for it?" "Sir, yes, sir." The President smiled, "Leutenant, what if our country was the one to produce the next Hitler and was to begin a war of conquest against others, would you fight for it?" The officer was taken aback but quickly recovered and answered, "Sir, this is my country and I would fight for it no matter what." "Thank you Leutenant, I will be right down." As the Leutenant left the President turned around and looked out over the Red Square again where thousands of people were waving the Russian Flags and singing "Get up the Giant Country, Get up for One Last Fight"...

"If War comes tomorrow, if the Enemy shall attack,
If the Evil Forces will charge,
Like one man will the Russian Nation stand up,
And will fight for the Motherland"

The President was walking outside and towars the group of officials that were waighting for him. The newly apointed Prime Minister Nurgaliev, The Minister of Defence Sergeyev, and the top military officers were all gathered and in their parade uniforms.

"On land, in the air, and on seas,
Our motto is always the same:
We won't shudder in fight,
For our Homeland, -
And the enemy will pay!"

After all the official handshakes and pleasantries the President and his surroundings proceeded to head over to the re-built mausoleum. While the body of Lenin was lost in the nuclear exchange of 1962 the Mausoleum was rebuilt just as it was and now served as the Revolution Museum.

"If war comes tomorrow - the country will rise
From Krondstadt to Vladivostok
The great and mighty country will rise,
And the enemy will be crushed."

Following the tradition the President headed up to the roof of the Mausoleum and as he walked up the crowed cheered. He gave a subtle sign and the army begun to take its positions.

"The plane will fly, the gun will fire,
And the powerful tanks will roll,
Our ships will go, and the soldiers will charge,
Our rockets will fly through the air"

The President waved to the crowed as the other officials got up. Amongs them were former Prime Minister Putin, and now a sharp critic of the President's policies, the former Prime Minister Chernomyrdin, and many others.

"We don't want the war, but we will fight back,
Not for nothing we dig our tranches,
And in enemy land we will crush them
With little blood, in one mighty strike!"

A wing of planes flew overhead and soldiers with flags came up to the Mausoleum. Behind the President were placed a flag of the Russian Federation, a Flag of the Soviet Union and a flag of the Communist Empire of Russia.

"Get up people, get ready to march!
Drums, beat us a fighting march!
Musicians - go, singers - with them!
Sing us our victory song!"

As the song came to its end the President signaled and the parade begun with the famous Russian Marches playing. As the military passed by the President saluted and the crowed cheered. Putin looked grim while the President fought hard to contain a smile.

Lurker's Comment: President Swan, correct? Sorry, it just sounds rather silly. Especially when he begins dying.

Anyhow, still lurking, still looking, nice story SB.

President's Address to the Nation after the Parade

It's difficult to speak, and it's bitter. A terrible tragedy has occurred in our land.

Over all these last few months, each of us has suffered profoundly and experienced in our hearts everything which happened in the Russian cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev, where we came up against not just murderers, but people who used their weapons against defenceless people, women, and children.

And today, I am addressing first and foremost, with words of support and sympathy, those people who lost the dearest thing in life - their relatives.

I am asking you to remember all those who died at the hands of terrorists and our enemies in the last few months. Russia's history has seen many tragic pages and grave ordeals.

Today we are living in conditions which have emerged following the rapid changes in a vast great state, a state which unfortunately turned out to be unable to survive in the context of a rapidly changing world. But despite all the difficulties, we have managed to preserve, and improve, the core of the colossus which was the Soviet Union.

And we called the new country the Russian Federation. We all expected changes, changes for the better. But we have turned out to be absolutely unprepared for much that has changed in our lives...

On the whole, we have to admit that we have failed to recognise the complexity and dangerous nature of the processes taking place in our own country and the world in general. In any case, we have failed to respond to them appropriately.

We showed weakness, and the weak are trampled upon. Some want to cut off a juicy morsel from us while others are helping them.

They are helping because they believe that, as one of the world's major nuclear powers, Russia is still posing a threat to someone, and therefore this threat must be removed.

And terrorism is, of course, only a tool for achieving these goals. But as I have already said many times, we have faced crises, mutinies and acts of terror more than once.

But what has happened now, this crime of the terrorists, inhuman, unprecedented in terms of its cruelty, is not a challenge to the president, to parliament or to the government.

This is a challenge to the whole of Russia, to the whole of our people, this is an attack on our country.

The terrorists and our enemies believe they are stronger than us, that they will be able to intimidate us with their cruelty, that they will be able to paralyse our will and demoralize our society. Or, worse, put us to sleep with their pretence of friendship and calm so that they can strike again.

And it would appear that we have a choice of resisting them or agreeing to their claims, surrendering, allowing them to destroy and split Russia, in the hope that they will finally leave us in peace.

As president, the head of the Russian state - the person who swore an oath to defend the country and its territorial integrity - and simply as a citizen of Russia, I am convinced that in reality we simply have no choice.

Because if we allow ourselves to be blackmailed and if we give in to panic, we will submerge millions of people into endless and bloody conflicts like those in Africa, in the former UIS, and other well-known tragedies we know only too well.

One cannot fail to see the obvious. We are dealing here not just with separate actions aimed at frightening us, not just with separate terrorist sorties.

We are dealing with direct intervention of international forces against Russia, with a total, cruel and full-scale war in which our compatriots die again and again.

The entire world experience shows that these wars, unfortunately, do not end quickly.

In these conditions, we simply cannot, we must not live as carelessly as we have done until now. We must create a more effective security system, demand from our law-enforcement bodies actions which are appropriate to the level and scale of the new threats that have emerged.

But the main thing is mobilisation of the nation before a common danger. Events in other countries have shown that terrorists received the most effective rebuff where they encounter not only the power of the state but an organised, united civil society.

Fellow countrymen, the aim of those who sent the bandits to carry out these horrific crimes was to divide our people, to frighten the Russian citizens, to unleash a fratricidal bloodbath in our Country. However , in this respect I have the following to say.

First, in the near future a range of measures to strengthen the unity of the country will be prepared.

Second, I think it is essential to create a new system for coordinating the forces and resources controlling the situation in the former UIS.

Third, it is essential to set up an effective, crisis management system, including a fundamentally new approach to the actions of the law-enforcement agencies.

It is impossible to become reconciled to the anguish of the loss. But the ordeals have brought us even closer together and made us re-evaluate many things. Today we must be together. This is the only way for us to defeat the enemy.

Thank you.

The President after the speech placed flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin walls and retreated to his office.

“The UIS is disbanded,” announced the Director of the ISI.
“Oh well then” said Indhira Gandhi
“Hmmm…. “ said Minster of Foreign Affairs
“What do we do now?” asked Minister of Defense
“Hmm… good question I’m not sure” replied Indhira Gandhi
“Does it matter?” asked Minister of Foreign Affairs
“No I suppose not,” said Minister of Defense “Do you want me to disband the military”

“No keep it” said Indhira Gandhi “We may need it again some day”
“Alright” said the Minister of Defense shrugging
“Hey what do I do now!” cried the Director of the ISI
“Well I don’t really know… I never knew what you did in the first place anyway,” replied Indhira Gandhi
“For that matter neither did I” said Minister of Defense
“How can you say that!” cried Director of the ISI
“Well it’s easy really” said Indhira Gandhi “I mean seriously what did you do? Nothing useful at any rate.”

The Director ran out of the room sobbing.
The Minister of Intelligence entered“ The UIS is disbanded!” he yelled
“Oh my god really!” Indhira Gandhi cried
“Yes yes!” he replied
“I was being sarcastic idiot,” said Indhira Gandhi
“What do I do now?” as the Minister of Intelligence.
“What did you ever do anyway, hell I never even knew I had a Minister of Intelligence.”

“Oh wait this is India right? Damn! Wrong nation!” he said walking out the door
“Why did they let him in then?” Indhira Gandhi wondered aloud
The Minister of Defense shrugged
The Director of the CBI walked in “The UIS is disbanded!” he cried
“Oh bloody hell this is getting old,” said Indhira Gandhi
The Minister of Defense nodded
“What do I do now!” he cried
“ Like I give a damn!” shouted Indhira Gandhi “Get out!”

The Director of the CBI ducked to avoid the vase she threw and ran out sobbing.
“So… it’s just me and you,” said the Minister of Defense “Rarrrrrrr….”
She glared at him “ I get enough from my vibrator I don’t need you”
‘What!” he cried “but you made love to me”
“My vibrator didn’t have batteries” she replied, “Now get out!”
The Minister of Defense ran out sobbing
“Now it’s just me and you vibey….brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…..ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…”
