Well, i have enjoyed 3 years of civ3, and it has been loads of fun.
ive started prolly over 200 games, and made many maps and scenarios.
i even made a mod, for some enjoyment, and it was real cool.

the sad thing is, my computer got hit by a devastating virus, called Security Suite.
it was a nasty virus, blocked my rkill, mbam, control virus, program folders, task manager, and it was just sitting there saying i cant do anything. it blocked all my programs that can fight it, and even edited my proxy so when i would browse the net, it would redirect me to a bogus page telling me i gotta buy Security Suite. I read on my lap top, that i could go into safe mode to fix it...

the moment i do, screen freezes. *shrugs* no prob, try again... still wont work.

in the end i had to reinstall windows, and i had no opportunity to back up the data.

ive had this virus before, but it came back much stronger, and just bashed my computer.

if i were to try to reinstall, i dont have a cd, i downloaded from the net, for 20 bucks, and if i were to, all my saves, mods, and maps would be gone, and it would take weeks to make those again.

point is, its real tough, but ima have to quit on civ3. its been a great experience, and i guess if civ5 looks worth it, ill try it out, maybe get hooked into building empires once more...

Poor guy. You can get Civ 3 on steam for $5 which isn't a lot. Maybe order both Civ V and Civ 3.

That will not restore all your hard work, though. I'm same way. Should back it all up, but I never do for some reason.

If you pre-order Civ5 from D2D, they will throw in a copy of Civ3 for free. :)

eh, i dont buy online, it gives me too much trouble. having a tangible disc is better than having a copy of the data somewhere. if i were to have the c3c disc this would not even be a problem.

i think im just gonna go and get civ5 from gamestop or something, so i dont end up getting a virus and losing the game

Try using Kaspersky Internet 2011 next time. Oh well, makes it easier to move on to Civ5. I gave my Civ3 to my sis going to college, so i wouldn't have and going back.

If you buy Civ 5 from Gamestop, you will get a box with a DVD in it, a serial number, and not much more.

To play Civ 5 you must register it on Steam. You will thereafter have the capability of reloading the game directly from Steam should anything happen to your DVD.

It is remotely possible you might get a virus from Steam, D2D, etc. But the odds of being struck dead by lightning are greater.

It has been years since I have had a virus or malware on my computer. A good antivirus and internet protection program, keep Windows up to date, combined with the most important element, which is extreme paranoia about the sites I visit. Even more paranoia about what I download.

so i can buy the cd ad gamestop, register on steam, and have no worries?

Is correct. If you have slow internet, buying the DVD in a box is an especially great idea. Once registered on Steam, Steam will automatically apply patches for you.

You do not have to be connected to the internet to play. This link explains how you switch your steam client to offline mode.

ok sounds good, when i get civ5 this weekend (hopefully) ill make a steam account

If you've got two computers, I'd get an external enclosure for your other hard drive and mount it on the other computer. Then you can run virus scans and malware scans on it and clean it off. I do this at work for the really nasty ones that get infected.

theyer both desktops, and arent in the same building, but if i were to have a laptotp, that would have worked i guess. ill have to keep than in mind next time i get some fake little security thing running my computer

Even easier. :) If they're both windows machines, and have the same kind of connection (SATA or IDE) then you can just mount them into the same chassis.

I also had my computer die. Mine died back in April or May 2010, and I haven't replaced it. I don't know if I want to either. But, I might go back.

No computer? Oh, the horrors! If either one of the two I play on or my work computer went down, it would be replaced in less than a week.

Good News here, I AM GETTING CIV BACK!

i'm going to be getting civ3 complete for christmas, should be great, and it will be a CD, so no virus can stop me

now, ill have to make my mod all over again, but thats no big deal :)

Welcome back into the fold!

C3C is the best. If you haven't played it before, you'll really like it.
