OK, so I just started a game with Tech Paradigm 60/10, turn year increment 10.
I saved it as a scenario file and loaded it from that scenario file before beginning.

In the very earliest stages of the game, before I had even discovered Writing, I popped a goody hut that gave me a Mechanized Infantry unit.

WTH?

I then started over and got a similar result when a different hut gave me a Cavalry unit.

Why is this happening? How do I make it stop? I'm scared.

I think I figured out why this was happening. Scenario designers who use Test of Time might like to know this.

Apparently it's hard-coded into the "Fantasy Game." I sort of forgot to mention that I was playing ToT with all the key files(Rules, Units, etc.) copied into the Fantasy directory. The same effect does not appear to occur if you change the contents of the "Science Fiction Game" directory.

It had nothing to do with the Tech Paradigm or Turn Year Increment, as near as I can figure.

So, if you're writing a ToT scenario and you want to violate the laws of Which Mercenaries You Get From Goody Huts, play around with the Fantasy directory.
