I was playing the Mesoamerican scenario as Maya (randomly chosen) and had just finished researching something, when I noticed this loooong popup in my capital. It read "A scientific breakthrough in research has lead to a great leader!" Yes, it was in my capital. I didn't have any wonders for him to rush and I was leading the Aztecs (already crushed the Toltecs and Olmecs  ), so I fortified him.

Anyone else have any luck?

Congratulations on your first. My first one was a Hittite IIRC and was a pleasant surprise.

Ah...cacao...mmmh, tasty.:D
Congrats!
[party]

Btw, that terrain type is really jungle?:p

edit: how does cacao get along with your coffee affection anyways?;)

Swell. I'm making a point of hooking up all the cacao plants in the area. Perhaps I can sell Montezuma some before I crush his empire. For the child of the sun, his kingdom isn't doing too well.

It looks like jungle, but my worker cut it down in like three or four turns. They probably edited its values.

Ummm, you may want to look carefully at how much food you get from the Mesoamerican jungle before you do too much more clearing :)

Probably should- I've been focused on getting cities near the Olmec and Toletic capitals so I could take them out. By the way, do they attempt to build cities in anyone's games? The Olmec capital had settlers in it, but neither of them tried sending out settlers- escorted or no.

Heh...Einstein doesn't really go with the era does he? I am surprised scientific leaders are not era specific like the military ones.

Just so everyone knows, jungle, hills and mountains can all be mined/irragated in the mesoamerica scenario. :)

Cool. . . seems kinda strange to irrigate jungle, as you would expect a lot of water there already. Be nice if there was some kind of improvment for jungles only to add a food to it. But I guess irrigation fits that bill, doesn't it?

Got one last night when I discovered writing (2nd tech I researched). Was going to use it to rush Lighthouse, but was able to build it as normal. Then was going to rush Statue of Zeus, but got that built as well. Then great library, dittos.

Rushed Sun Tzu's!. Adrionople is one happening city.

I also got a great scientific leader in my first C3C game, and I also was playing as Mayans. Researched Literature first and the got the long pop up. Since I got literature first, I didn't have to use the leader to rush the Great Library and got it anyway. I'm about to get Sun Tzu's without using the leader as well. I hope to use it to get the Knights Templar--I'm just waiting for someone else other than the Incas to get Chivalry so that I get it and can rush KT. Funny how when you have the Great Library the AI civs don't trade techs. Usually they practically give their techs away to other AI civs. Anyway, I figure I should get Chivalry before Incas can build KT. I can't wait to see the Crusaders and to have them churned out every five turns. By the way, I first learned at another thread that only scientific leaders can rush great wonders in C3C; military leaders can't.

First game ever on C3C was the Mesopotamia Conquest on Emperor as Egypt. I researched my first tech and got an SGL - Ptolemy. I researched my second tech and as luck would have it, got a SECOND SGL - Ptolemy. Two techs and two SGLs, I'm thinking this game is too easy.

I didn't get another the rest of the night.

Great addition though. I always hated having to go to war while I was still expanding, just to get leaders.

2 SGLs in a row on emperor? The RNG likes you. :) You were just lucky. From what I've seen, I get one per era below monarch.

The RNG likes you.

I hope so. I've been nice to number generators my entire life.

I figured I was pretty lucky. I thought it was a standard 3% chance of generation if you were first to discover a tech. Is it at all different depending on difficulty level?

It's always 3% (5% for scientfic civs). So, you just got really lucky.

Maybe there's some game code implementation to temporarily increase SGL chances right after installation, just to bottle-feed us noobs...:)

:hmm: The 3%(5%) odds count only for really 'self-researched' techs?
Or would that include an era free tech eventually?
(OT, but in this regard, is the free era tech for a scientific civ somewhat biassed towards unknown techs in C3C, like in PTW?)
Also, I *assume* hut-popping does not count.

I was playing on Demigod (demisid sounds better) level and on my first eligible try, I pulled a GSL. This enabled me to rush TOE and 2 turns later switch my Univ Suff pre-build smoothly to Hoover Dam. This was especially nice because on that very turn the AI built Univ Suff. I was able to trade Atomic Theory for all the Industrial Age techs I was missing. The GSL made my game.

BTW, when I got the GSL, I couldn't read the whole message, because it was obscured by the "What shall we research now" popup.

Yes, you can only get a SGL from a tech you research yourself and discover before any other civ.
