    GOTM-03: Japan. Saves available.

You can get the saves for GOTM-03 from the start page HERE.

Please note: This month, we are offering the game in three different classes: Adventurer, Contender and Challenger.

If you are familiar with the Civ3 GOTM classes, then these are like Conquest, Open and Predator respectively.

If you have not played the Civ3 GOTM and are not familiar with these, then please read

THIS THREAD - I'll answer any questions that I can!

For this game, the class details are as follows:

    Adventurer class:
    Conditions of Entry:
    1. You must have never finished in the top half of the results for the other Civ4 GOTMs (published results, at least ;))
    2. Your submission score will be reduced by 15% (this is not a class for people to try to get an artificial leg-up to the top of the leaderboard!

Note - we'll offer some leeway here. If you have never played or never won on (or above) monarch before, you may also play in this class.

    Benefits:
    1. Start with a worker to improve your lands.
    2. Start with an archer for defence.

    Contender class:
    Conditions of Entry:
    <none> Open to all entrants.

    Benefits:
    1. None. No advantages nor handicaps.

    Challenger class:
    Conditions of Entry:
    <none> Open to all entrants.

    Handicaps:
    1. You start knowing zero technologies.

cool. this should please most of the people. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do challenger, but I guess some find monarch too easy...

Woopdedoo! Another week going to waste :p

Hmm.. I'll stick with the contender class... seems fairest for me as I'm not a good nor a bad player, but did win a game lately at emperor level.

Very nice twist though, the challenger class

    LOL@
    :D

The GOTM3 release page has the sea level as low. The pre-game discussion for game three said high sea level. I don't mean to be picky, but it does make a difference with barbs, as more land = more barbs, all else being equal.

And here we've been practicing all week on high sea level maps! :crazyeye:

I just noticed the same. Hopefully it is a typo in release page?

Starting without techs as a handicap on Challenger takes away part of the uniqueness of the leader. Maybe we should be forced to research the starting techs first?

Same question here; can somebody who has started confirm if sea levels are high or low? Don't want to crack open the save file just to find out.

Is there an easy way that I can set up a practice game starting with no techs? I'd like to have a look at what I'm getting into before committing to the extra level of difficulty in the real GOTM.

Hmmm Iam wondering if I should play considering the horrendous instabilitly of Civ Vi especially towards to end of timeline.

In fairness, I wouldn't expect Civ VI to be particularly stable considering that all the Firaxis programers are still working on Civ IV. Wait a decade or so and Civ VI will be much more playable. ;)

(By the way, I've never had Civ IV crash. Doesn't really help you if Civ IV is unstable on your system, but it's partially a problem with your system, not the game).

I suspect that he doesn't want to reveal the entire map while removing the techs. Worldbuilder needs a mode where it doesn't show the entire world when you come in. It should respect the game's current FOW until you explicitely ask to see the rest of the map.

Then in that case, he would be better to ask someone else to set-up a save file for him.

Cut down all the things that cause instability. Turn off movies, minimise graphics enhancements ...

Or get some more RAM and a better graphics card?
