Im hanging in there. Year 1972. 77 Aquaducts, many cities in need of sanitation. Ive whittled down the enemy to 2 civs. Its a big world out there. Lots of nukes being exploded. 1 run of global warming. Clean up crews busy. Every turn takes at least 30 minutes.
:)

OCC means "One City Challenge". Apparently, some strong players [Samson? Solo? Paul ?] before my time found Civ2 too easy. They challenged themselves to win games with only one city. Eventually, Paul wrote a guide to playing this way. Can't say it's easy, but lots of people have done it now, and the games move pretty fast. Most of these are landing games, but apparently even conquest is possible.

Im standing at the door of the last city, Richmond, population 1 and the poor fella armed with a single cruise missle. He wants about 20 bucks to succumb to my ways.
This was the longest game i have ever played, i wish someone would at least pay me an hourly minimum wage for all this slaughter and micro management. I bet i spent 48 hours, maybe more. Hum... 48 x $7.95 equals 381 Dollars and 60 Cents. I could use it about now.

Global warming was ugly and it sure takes a lot of engineers to get things right.

I'm sure i will not rate with you fine players. I hope that this 100 GOTM milestone, will have a posting showing our leading player's trek through the ages. I cant seem to find anything on this forum of such. I want to be bewildered and amazed by your feats.

Current population 160,550,000. 132 aquaducts, my advisors are not offering an easy way to know how many cities i actually have. Where can i get such info without a tedious scrolling count?

I turned off science when i got to Future Tech 1. 40% Happy Maker and 60% Bankrolling in the gold. Democracy is making babies quicker than i can build aquaducts and sewer systems. A space ship is started but im not sure its worth the effort to land at 2019 for a max score generation.
?

Managing the cities causes some boring actions in civII.
I count my cities by scrolling ( each page has 12 ) and the i name
the 100th city by "100" and so on in steps.

What i have and play is Multiplayer Gold Edition. It would be fun to one day play someone a head to head game, perhaps blocking out a full day. If anyone wishes to, let me know.
......

Hello AZA,

I am interested in a head to head game. I have the Ultimate Classic Collection, which is a Multiplayer version, though I don't know if it is the right thing. May be also some troubles with firewalls, but perhaps it is worth a test.

Best wishes Raccoon

Bah, wanted to take it easy for this game and go space race....but Zulu beat me by 2 years. I sacked 3 cities trying to get the capital but it kept escaping. Any idea how to prevent that?

It costs the AI 1000gold to escape to a new capital, every time you take out the capital. The only way to prevent it is to keep taking the capital (or other) cities until their gold is less than 1000, then it can't 'buy' a new capital and the space ship will be wiped out.

I finally finished last night, I had a major computer crash a few days ago and thought I'd lost the save files, but system restore eventually worked and I managed to not lose anything.

I won by full spaceship, but it certainly wasn't an early landing. I don't know if anyone else found this, but because of the shape of the map, I found it hard at first, as settlers had to move further initially to found cities.

I'm almost finished. Only a few turns till researching the spaceship techs. I'm between 1200 and 1300 ad so a spaceship win before 1500 ad (at least before turn 200) could be possible. I had no trouble with founding new cities. Stayed near the coastlines and used some rivers for quick movement.

I think comps dev. faster on this map than they normally would, and I usually play on deity. At least I found the Chinese to be way ahead in tech when I first found them.

In my game they did develop faster then in most games I played before. I guess that the reason for this is that some civs had good workable tiles (rivers and specials).

I finally finished. I decided to build a full spaceship so a landing before 1500 was not possible with this ship....so I finally won with a landing at 1581AD. Will post my log when I am at home.

Had not enough time yesterday to post my log but here it is...

Nice game, MG, and good map. I conquered (almost) in approx 500AD, leaving only Tronheim as a trading pet. That was about 2-3 weeks ago. The rest was buildng up the population under Republic, which is useful for GOTM score, but relatively boring. I continued off-and-on up to the deadline yesterday. By then, I was in the 600-800AD range, with about 100 cities, I guess.

I froze science before Feudalism and never got Nav/etc, just to maintain trade. So, I had to leave a LOT of huts unpopped. That was frustrating, but probably correct... not sure.

I didn't have much trouble finding places for cities. I got mapmaking about the time the top of my "O" filled up, and then could move settlers overseas. I did have some problems with the natives, and lost several outposts, but it wasn't too hard to start over. A fun game.
