In this game, you will rule over the Koreans, who are Commercial and Scientific and start the game with the knowledge of Alphabet and Bronze Working. This is a Monarch-level game. The Korean Unique Unit is the Hwach'a, a stronger Cannon which doesn't need Iron.

There are a few extra rule changes in this game:
  • The H'wacha has lethal sea and land bombardment and is available with Gunpowder.
  • Instead of Granaries, Koreans use Kimchi Pots. Instead of Wall Street, they build Gangnam-gu. These Improvements are otherwise the same as always.
  • A very old man called Yongwang lives alone on an island from Fish alone.
This game was created by Più Freddo.

Tomorrow, the game is released and the competition starts. Yet not a single soul has shown any interest in it and posted a comment in the pre-game discussion. What up, guys?

Still a bit groggy from the last two games, but at least I managed to finish them without time scramble...

My impression is: standard size, 80% ocean and 11 opponents... That's going to be crowded...
And the screenshot looks like we don't have that many land tiles at our disposal. Korea is nice for a research game, but on this map we'll have to rely on the coastal tiles for fast research?!

Is our task for this game to find out, what Yongwang is good for...? :)

Yongwang is immovable. He catches his own fish and costs no mainenance. He will calm the populace down somewhat under Governments that allow this. That's all. The story has it, there were once many Yongwangs around Korea, who collected this large map of the wide surroundings. Only one now remains.

That looks like a nice map to me, and fertile region for my nation to develop. I hope to someday develop a temple for Yonwang to worship, and a beautiful city that my people may behold from the shore. I suspect there is more to the Yongwang than meets the eye.

I am always unsure, what I can write in these spoilers (this time I finished the game quite early, i.e. before the FP or size 12 came up), and sometimes I'm not sure, whether I am already allowed to read these spoilers (when I am off to a late start).

I know. Perhaps we should just have free spoilers at all times. No need for complicated rules any more. We can leave it to each player to refraon from reading things that could help him or her.

I am in favor of that! I have an AAR written up but I need to find it. I finish the games well before the submission deadline.

Leading the Koreans to victory was difficult for me and I eventually failed, but not by much. I thank Più Freddo for an enjoyable map. Longwang never left his island and never faced an invasion. I don’t know if he could do anything special but I’m sure I missed something. I suspected he would become an Easter Bunny, but I was done by then.

I founded my Capital in place, but in 450 B.C. it was destroyed in an invasion by sea for which I was ill prepared. That was shameful. I quickly rebuilt the city and it was productive almost immediately. I fought endless wars and that grew tiresome. I took a Chinese city at the western isthmus and enemy bones piled up at the base of its fortifications.

1400 A.D. I finally discovered the second continent. I traded up to a tech lead, and was among the first to develop rails and rifles. I prepared to take control of my continent and went on the attack:

Ø I took the major Chinese cities and someone else eliminated them.
Ø I took Baghdad and Sun Tzu’s
Ø I tried and failed to take Mecca and Smith’s Trading Company

My expansion was not what I hoped but I took peace with acquired land that had all the resources I needed for now. When I was ready to build infantry there was no rubber on my continent. I faced the choice of taking it from Spain on the other continent, but Egypt was already very strong by then and I feared constant attack. Instead I took it from Scandinavia on their snowy northern island. I was able to defend that from frequent Egyptian attacks through the end of the game and that precipitated the Viking’s demise.

I did not want to go through the tedium of building the spaceship and I thought a diplomatic victory would be mine. I got the U.N. (I don’t remember how) but everyone always hated me and I was never close to getting the votes. I bribed and cajoled, but I was not doing it right. Eventually I switched to Apollo Program but I had already wasted time on Stealth and other techs that slowed me down. I was militarily untouchable on my continent, but I had no power to find and destroy the Egyptian Space Program. They launched ten turns before me. Spaceship loss.

Thanks once again to Freddo for the game.
