As per previous GOTMs, please refer from opening any spoilers for this game. One of the GOTM team will open the first spoiler on or about the 5th of December.

If you encounter any problems with installation and setup of this game, please contact me by PM or email to gotm@civfanatics.net

Save game files of Gotm26-Asian Melee where you will be playing as the Han Dynasty(China) in "A Tale of Two Cities" are now available for you to play.

REMEMBER that you must have the game packs installed to play up to Gotm25 in order for this Gotm26 game to load and play properly on your computer.

Also, please take just a few seconds to make sure that you download the correct version of the game to match with your software.

Players who want to play the game in the original Civ3v1.29 software should download one of the save games that has "v129" in the filenames.

Players who want to play the game in Play the World (PTW) eith v1.14 or v1.21 or v1.27 should download one of the save games that has "ptw" in the filenames.

You may not play any version of this game in the Civ3 Conquests executable but if you look closely you will find that you have have the choice of either Civ3v1.29 or PTWv1.27 if you have Civ3Conquests installed.

Players in the Open Class games will have two save files in their packet to choose from. Open class players may only play the game once but you may choose whether your bonus units will be located at the Dyes start position or at the Spices start position.

Here are the links to zip folders containing your starting save files:

ORIGINAL Civ3 without Expansion Packs

Civ3v1.29 OPEN Class

Civ3v1.29 Conquest Class

Civ3v1.29 Predator Class

PLAY THE WORLD

PTW OPEN Class

PTW Conquest Class

PTW Predator Class

This is gonna be great :D :goodjob:

Now i am ready to start the game, but i still have some questions and need some answers...first of all i havent understand completely the difference between the classes...i wanted a difficult game and i choosed Predator Class ...did i made right? what are the differences from other two classes? can anyone tell me?

and one more question pls...i havent also understood if i have the right to participate in the forum writting about the progress of my game and other players progress...is that a penalty ? what are my obligations after opening the saved file?
pls help..as it is already 6 of December!!.....

Sorry forgot to ask before someth. more....must i register again just for the game? how do you know that i participate in the game?

To answer your other questions, Veteran:

1. Open is the "normal" GOTM game. Conquest class has some bonuses at the start to make it easier. Predator is the most difficult and has some penalties at the start. The exact nature of the bonuses and penalties is not always known.

2. You can participate in any of the Spoiler Forums. You must wait until the first one is opened by the moderator. That is usually around the 5th or 6th of the month. In order to participate you have to have reached a certain point in the game. The moderator will tell you what the requirements are when he opens the Spoiler.

3. After you open the save game file your obligation is to have a good time playing it. There are certain rules that you can find on the main GOTM page. The main rule is that you can't reload and play again if you don't like the result that you originally got on that turn. As in real life, you have to learn to live with your mistakes. This is policed rather vigorously by the staff, because the goal of the GOTM is to compare yourself to the other players. If someone is cheating then that comparison is invalid.

thanks so much friends you're great...what about one more question? ...a last one?....what are the files i must save in order to submit? or just the last save before the end of the game?

You should finish the game and then submit. See the Sticky post in this Forum about Finishing and Submitting Games.

hello veteran!

you seem to be a little bit nervous about the competition, aren't you? ;)

to your latest question:

when the game is over, that means you've won or lost, click through the result screens. when you're asked to quit the game or to play a few more turns, choose the latter (play more turns...) and game right away.
this is the file to submit.
remember, it doesn't matter is you win or if you loose, you can submit anyway, and your game will be scored. itmight be a little bit disappointing for yourself to loose, it isn't from the point of view of the gotm competition.

you can read it in ainwood's own words here:

to submit, use the submit page

A saved game before the end of the game is OK, but we prefer that you complete the game, and then, after the victory ceremony, select "I want to play a few more turns". Save the game then, and upload it using the submission form. Saving the game after victory reduces the work required to check your game file, as we don't have to play your last turn and guess how you finished.

-ok thanks a lot once again ..i have already started the game , and i am afraid i have another more question...must i save the file every time i close the game (quit) and load it next time i open it to continue playing?
or may be dont save anything but just quit and next time i load the last auto save file??
-i just noticed that Ainwood enter a spoiler#1 for the game. i didnt entered , prefer to ask first...when can i open the spoiler thread? ( by the way there is no translation for the word .."spoiler" from english to greek) i dont understand what exactly means but i can only suggest ...so i would like to propose just to try to use more simple words to be more easily understood as i suppose there are many friends abroad members of that wonderful site...thanx

You should save your game before quitting and then reload that save to continue.

Each Autosave is a copy of the game at the start of your turn. So if you quit at the start of your move you can load up the Autosave and continue without doing a Save. I always Save before quitting - I'm paranoid, so I never trust the Autosave, and it only takes seconds, so why not?

If you play a turn and then quit before you hit Next Turn then the Autosave is out of date. If you then restart with the Autosave you will have to replay your previous turn. This adds to your work, as moves can get very lengthy and you do not want to have to replay them too often. Also, you will be replaying that turn knowing the results of your battles, diplomatic actions and other moves, so this is really an illegal reload as you can play for better results during that turn.

Obviously you have to use the last Autosave if your game or system crashes, but then you should try to reproduce the same moves that you used before.

Unfortunately, "Spoiler" has become a very widely used word in the game world and this site will not be able to change that.

A "Spoiler" contains information about people's games that may give you knowledge about the map or other civilizations and their states of development that you do not have yet. It can therefore spoil your state of innocence. Once you have reached the point in your game that is defined in the first post in the thread you are allowed to read the rest of that thread and to contribute your progress and discoveries in your game up to that point.

You can read and contribute in the first Spoiler in GOTM 26 when you have learned all the compulsory technologies in the Ancient Age, you have a full world map of your starting continent, and you have contact with all the civilizations on your starting continent or their remains. To avoid spoiling other people's games you must not post any information in that thread or elsewhere about events or discoveries you have made after that point. New spoiler threads will be opened for later milestones.

Thanks a lot AlanH.I understood the meaning of your reply, but always new questions come into my mind....here's one more....

What will happen if someone plays the game till some ages , and then loads and restart the game from the very first turn? ..I mean, how the Gotm stuff will discover it? Hope this isn't a silly question...

AllanH or any other friend? what do you say?

The answer is that it is not alright. We have some ways of detecting things like this, but the main point is that we work on an honour system.

The way to play the game is to start at the beginning, and play right through. You may not reload a game and replay ANY of the turns. If it is discovered that you have, your game must be disqualified.

So, please just play once-through. :)

-is there any bug with luxuries ? predator class GOTM26 ?
I see gems on the map but instead of gems i can see spices inside city display or trade advisor display! anyone knows something about that?

Yes, it is a bug, but not a serious one. The way the Civ3 program is written, I believe that it uses different resource pics for the cities than it does for the map (not too sure), but the result is that when there are custom resources, the icons in the city view will be the wrong ones. You will also see that some resources have no icon in the city view! (but you can tell you have them because the smily faces will still appear.

This is only an issue with the icons - the resource is still treated as the correct one, and it will still be able to be traded etc as normal.

I think cracker had some leniency when a player made an obvious mistake. like accidently settling in the wrong spot and similar things.
In this game I accidently started to type without having notepad open and my workers scattered all over the place starting doing funny things and I releoaded the turn. I stated this in my timeline though. If it's not allowed anymore, then feel free to ignore my submission. :crazyeye:

They were actually GOTM Team decisions, and still are. ;)

An error like you made with the wordpad is 'reasonable' - and if you're honest enough to tell us about it, we'd judge that to be reasonable and keep your submission. However, things like settling in the wrong place aren't - makes people think about their moves more!

Seriously, if we start allowing players to reload because they settled in the wrong place, then players will want to reload because they attacked in the wrong order or they declared war on the wrong civ. At this point, reloading becomes selective - they attack with the 'wrong' unit and get a great leader - do they reload then? Hell no!
