I am surprised there is not a spoiler thread already.

I played till +1 earlier this morning. My log follows next.

So far this has been a most unusual game which shall be remembered as "Barbarians from hell". My first encounter came in -1500 when a trireme showed up next to Madrid. Fortunately, my warrior was close by and reached the city in time to defend it. The trireme remained parked there for centuries limiting my ability for exploration. Next encounter came in -825 when some barbarian archers landed on my island and started advancing towards Madrid. While part of that batch was still around, another batch of barbarian archers landed in -650.
By +1 I have had 4-5 batches of barbarians who managed to kill 4 phalanxes and 1 warrior. All I got was one leader worth 150.

Another unusual aspect of this game, so far, has been that Americans got destroyed by Indians. With restarts off this causes a second hole in the key civ spots making advances more difficult.

The most devastating happening so far, however, has been that Romans built Marco Polo before I could. An AI Civ finishing 2 wonders before +1 is rare (Romans already have Pyramids). Marco is essential for OCC and this is going to make it very difficult for me. If it was not for the fact that I have been busy producing those soon-to-be-dead units I could have won the race.

Ali

I've been waiting for a spoiler thread, I wan't quite sure if it was ok for anyone to start one. My OCC game has now finished. It was my first attempt at one and it was quick and enjoyable to play.

I also had barbarian problems early in the game. I lost a settler and a warrior and also had most of my roads and irrigation pillaged a few times. I had forgotten about bribing them, when I remembered it I placed a few dips outside the city and it made it a lot easier.

The americans also got destroyed by the indians in my game as well. At first I didnt know if that was good or bad, but it became clear later on it was bad news.

I did build marco's, but traded too many technologies after receiving it, and was stuck for about 40-50 turns researching a tech. After I'd built coppernicus and grew in size a bit it became more manageable. I kept a log and I'll post it when I get home from work.

I'm not finished yet. It's around 500AD and this GOTM is for me also one to remember. I had also barbarians all over the place. I don't remeber exactly when they arrived first but I know it was quick (somewhere between 2000 -3000 bc). Till 1 AD they came frequently and after that moment the barbarian invasions were a lot less. It just looks like the barbarian level is higher then normal (higher then raging hordes). All those barbarian activities caused less grow then normal....so I will not have a quick landing this game.

Luckily I do not play OCC on this one cause the Indians did get the Americans too in my game.

Hopefully the next turns all will go better and give me a good score after all.

maybe the Americans started too close to the Indians....they were destroyed in my game also! BUT, something happened in my game that I have never seen before, the Indians had civil war and divided into Indians/Persians
@1450BC! Then the Babylonians had civil war as well and split into Babs/Vikings @275BC. I thought that was odd...

I have played to 1400s now and the barbarians keep coming. I am stuck at the bottom of power ratings making my key civ the missing Blue. This has made my research unbearably slow. I would have been green if it was not for restarts being off. I doubt my game is winable any longer. I missed out on Marco and later on Copernicus. In both cases I had the shields but not the tech. My only hope is occurrence of a major world war with no clear winners.

CharlieChuck: Anybody can start the spoiler thread.

I just finished my Conquest-By-Chariots Game! My self-imposed rule was not to use the normal EC cavalry (no elephants, knights, or crusaders). I used chariots (or less), diplomats, caravans, boats and settlers.

This was certainly not as challenging as OCC, for example. But it posed some interesting problems. For example, you must avoid polytheism, which makes chariots obsolete. I probably would have switched to catapults or legions if that had happened, but I wanted a chariots-only conquest, if possible. Also, if some AI gets Feudalism (pikemen), or city walls, etc, the game could get really tough - these are serious problems even for crusaders.

I couldn't get off to a really fast start, so I decided to build a big civ, and make LOTS of chariots. I had rather bad luck with barbs, as Ali/CC/MG did, and with huts (warrior code, feudalism, barbs). Also, I couldn't grow quickly on the poor terrain of our home island, so my future seemed bleak for a long time. Also, my Americans generally stayed at peace with my Indians, though I think the barbs did take out a couple of AI cities (and one Spanish one).

Fortunately, the AI's didn't put up a very tough fight, and my chariots performed almost as well as elephants. I generally managed to keep the techs on track, and prevented several AI cities from building the Great Wall. I didn't finish especially fast, and didn't run up a big score, but this game was certainly enjoyable.

4000 BC: S to river, will size-one there.
3350 BC: 1st S, makes Seville in 3300BC
2050 BC: monarchy (tech and govt)
2000 BC: 6 cities (2 brand new), 1 warrior, 5 techs
1850 BC: hut = WC. Uggh... this tech is useless, and I MUST avoid letting the AI get pikemen. I'd prefer that nobody gets Feudalism, or even WC. (usually if I get these techs, an AI will too).
1550 BC: Sea barbs take Salamanca. They keep it until I get Writing,
and buy it back in 525 BC. Also in 1550 BC, a hut gives a barb horseman. I have to scramble (RB an archer, etc) to defend my empty cities. All this hurts my growth quite a bit. The terrain aint so great either.
1200 BC: Another barb invasion from the North... I can handle this one, but the defense is expensive.
1000 BC: 9 cities.
950 BC: Trade, so now I can go for WoWs: MPE, LH, HG... but it seems a bit late for that... (?)
700 BC: hut = Feud (yechhh! no more warriors, no cheap RBs, and I HAVE to keep Feud away from the AI).
625 BC: Marco! The Romans declare war immediately, but I get 4 maps and several good techs [wheel, hbr, pots, wri, math]
500 BC: 16 cities. 2S/2tri/5v/11misc (no ele's, of course)
450 BC: LH!
350 BC: HG! I gave the Romans tech for a cease fire and got their map.
225 BC: Romans build Pyr in Antium, size 6, which becomes my first target.
150 BC: 1st van to Babylon (I think), pays 224g.
1 AD: 30 cities; monarchy, Mfg 94, pop 800K, have 6S/6char/11tri/1dip/8v/10misc. 3WoW. Contact and good attitudes from all AI, but I want the Romans to declare war, so I start demanding tribute (I'm getting only about 25g per turn). Rome builds Col.
140 AD: STWA! I don't build this too often anymore, but I expect to need LOTS of vet chariots in this game, so STWA makes more sense than barracks - especially since I'm stuck with Feudalism anyway. Also, 5 Spanish chariots overwhlem Antium (size 6), and take the Pyramids, with just one loss.
240 AD: 3 chariots take Rome! and the Colossus. This allows a cheap bribe of another size 2 Roman city. I'm getting 200-300 gold per van , once every few turns.
300 AD: I've built an outpost near Boston, but neglected to make peace with the US (or with any AI), and haven't yet RB'd a defender. They raze it. This is a fairly serious careless mistake, that I make way too often.
360 AD: India builds the GL. I wouldn't usually care, but they are the most distant civ, and I am very afraid of the AI(s) getting techs like Polytheism or Feudalism in this game.
380 AD: India builds Cope's. A barb ship sinks mine, with a chariot on board. Several civs start on the GW about now.
420 AD: Greeks research polytheism. Surprised me - I hadn't checked the Marco intel. Too bad - I had started an invasion there, but now I can't capture any Greek cities, and have to raze them instead, to avoid polytheism.
440 AD: Babs steal a 2nd tech, so I declare war on them.
500 AD: 60 cities, monarchy; have 13S/38char/32tri/23vans 750g. Have cease fires with US/Bab/Ro, war with Greeks, just contact with India. The AI's have approx 4 cities each, on average.
580 AD: Patient Spanish chariots finally raze Athens. Also, I cannot resist popping huts, even when I know it is stupid. I got Invention from one, which cut the value of my van collection in half (or is it 2/3...?).
600 AD: ... Babs destroyed. I had built a semi-decent ship-chain there, but the Babs kept changing trade demand, so they were never highly profitable partners.
620 AD: Had a spotless rep, but was getting nervous about Washington ... size 7, on a river, not on the coast, building the Great Wall ... so I sneak-attacked with 6 chariots and took it.
640 AD: With only one AI capitol still standing (Delhi), and a ship chain full of chariots on the way, I captured the last 2 Greek cities, and accepted polytheism into the Spanish soul. No more chariots after this! Also, Spain destroyed the Romans this turn.
700 AD: GW. I had a few extra vans lying about, and was slightly concerned about India building it. But after examing my ship chain, I found I could attack Delhi with 6 chariots, and took the city.
720 AD: Somehow, I had enough units in place to take 3 US cities - US destroyed. And enough to take 4 Indian ones - India destroyed. THE END.

Didn't go for a high score, though I had about 2000g and 40 extra vans at the end.

As you can se I went years without learning anything myself, I was lucky to get Unviersity off romans (they must have got it from a hut) as this enabled me increase science just after getting coppernicus, had it not been for that I think I'd have lost a lot more time.

I've never played OCC before but I've read some guides and other peoples logs, but I was still very surprised how much I got in gifts.

I don't know how you guys do it! I hardly have time to play one game each month, let alone take notes on how each turn went and what I did. some turns are nothing but hitting enter.... especially in the early game turns.
I am wondering right now if I will finish gotm 81 in time or not...

just finished in time. Last 15 turns not played good. To less time to play. But finally finished. Not a very good game. Lot of trouble in the beginning with barbs. Later had some good trade.

I submitted my loss earlier today. As I said in my earlier post, after missing Copernicus it was quite obvious that this game is not winnable. But I decided to play along anyways. The combination of restarts being off, Blue Civ missing, and Ameircans destroyed, kept me in the hole all game long. I kept increasing my treasury hoping to surpass any of the other civs but despite a treasury late in the game of near 20K (far more than what is needed to win OCC) I never did.

Tech was too slow all game long. I did manage to stay in the lead but Romans and Indians were closely behind me. My hope of major wars never happened. Greeks attacked Romans and Babylonians but the wars would usually end after a few cities changed hands.

This game lasted very long, both real time and game time. I launched in 1949 with about $10K and several vans left over. 3 turns later Indians launched a ship due to arrive before mine despite lack of fusion power. I immdiately gathered all my forces and headed for Delhi for a last-ditch almost-futile attempt. Before arriving there, Romans launched a ship in 1955 also due to arrive a year before mine. I continued my march toward Delhi nevertheless and attacked it just in time (the year before arrival). Despite having success in killing 7 Indian defenders of the city, I just did not have enough forces to finish the last rifleman and several cruise missiles parked there. Even if I could, I would have still lost the game.

Romans got to Alpha Centauri the next turn and won the game.
