4000- 3500- Madrid built at 45.13....Wariors Scouting
Techs - Bronze Works and Ceremonial Burial

2950=Seville Built at 48.18, Huts gave Alphabet and Currency

2500= Expanding - Scout Wariors also Going NE, Code of laws, 2 Cities and 2 Settlers

2250 - Cordoba( 50.14 ) and Toledo ( 42.22 ) .Populatiom 60.000

2200- Warriors find expected Huts at NE -None Horseman- Monarchy -4 Cities ,all buidling settlers

1950- No changes, huts visible at 70.20

1900- Huts = None Chariot , Encounter Celts at 65.21, Polytheism and Pottery

1400 - Taking a diffferent Path.....will stop growing my Civ...It obvious Purple is missing , how to bring it back ?? Horse Back , Polytheism , Warrior Code, have to take a different approach ......

1000- Build Valencia at 66.16 to be near the Celts , plan is simple ....move units near Kells ( 63.17) ,Celts will ask for units to be relocated , to the closest city ..then units will be then ask to ask to move .. Valencia . , since they are on Celt teritory...Valencia will Pile up several Elephants without moving any units thru Mountains
Mantain an enthusiatic approach with Celts .....but do not give them any WAR techs
Goal is for Celts to have more Cities . Population and Rank higher than me...
I will Build Settlers and inflate cities between ,Celts and my territory.....then , In time I will go to war and let them take my cities...

500-Valencia 66.16 is Built across from Cardiff.
( thanks to a Hut nearby )..so far I have 6 Elephant units, Im ranked 1rst in all departments...will shrink my population , by building more settlers.
Salamanca Build as a BAIT at 54.24, Currency , Iron works and Mysticism discovered , sharing all Techs , with Celts ...( except any techs that involve War technology ...)

400 - Scouting trireme locates an Island 68.6,Perfect location for a Science City, 3 tiles away fom many places on main land, 4 cities can be build in the mainland suppling Caravans , now PURPLE is imperative, Building Marco is a MUST, balancing growth , checking on demographics , have to give Celts the edge on Population, Rating and GMP, Game plan is defined....
To do this , I have to make sure that they have a higher ranking than me....
French are Catching up....they show even with me .....this may mess allup...

275- Starved one if my cities , so my popuation and Celts are even..., so are French ....Inflated Salamanca to " 5 ", I have 5 cities Madrid. ( 4) ,Seville ( 3 ) , Toledo ( 4 ), Valencia ( 3 ) and Salamanca( 5 ) = 18
Celts have 4 cities , total population= 10
Valencia has 8 Elephants and 3 Triremes , ready to attack Cardiff when the time comes....
Celts conquer the English ...could this be an issue ??, is another city on their Favor...french are head ro head ....population wise...
Marco Polo Build- Demanded Tribute from all Civs =600+

1 AD - Build Barcelona and inflated it to size 5 with Settlers, my Population is 17, Celts 12 ,will let them take Salamanca and Barcelona ...then their population will exceed mine

20 AD - Celts take Salamanca , my Population = 17, their is 14........hope they take Barcelona , size 5 ,thats the JOKER in the game , will leave the city without defenders.... that will change the numbers IF they yake Barcelona ( 53.19) then ..and MY game will start ...., I still rank 1rst...in the top 3 ...

180 AD - Finnaly!! Celts take Barcelona, now they rank first all over!!! YES....next turn ..have no time to waist ....a turn may be critical , is the first time that Celts , lead all cathegories on Demographics ....one turn later and I would be doom.......
3 Triremes sail from Valencia across the lake ....HERE we come CELTS!!
Celts are ranked 1rst on approval , ranking and GNP ....this is MY Chance ......

200 AD- Elephants Destroy Celt Capital....and.AFTER THE DUST SETTLES !!!!!! YES !! YES!!
Welcome PURPLE !!
Sioux are in the game with 3 cities, Barcelona , Salamanca , and York
Celts 4 cities
French 4 cities
Americans 4 Cities
Babylonians 3 cities
Where is Orange ??
20 Techs......will start exchanging Techs with other Civs
My settlers , that have been Idle , will build a City on 68.6 ( Science City )

Time to take a break

The strangest part is that Orange did not reappears , was this a Re-start game ??
Unfortunatly , I dont save every turn , and my logs are based on saves.
I would like to know at what point the Celts take London...but Im not certain.
I will look at my saves and try to figure why was not re-starts
Missing Orange will have any effect on the research of techs later ??
After my Science City is fully functional and Techs are coming every other turn ,does not seem to be an Issue.
My point was about re-starts, dont want to destroy any civs.......
Could it be that Celts take London on the previous turn ?? , then they surpass me on every cathegory , THEN after I conquer them , shuld be only 6 civs ??
The only difference this has made was that I send units to protect London ( PURPLE ) , since Celts destroy the other two....from Barbarian attacks...and attacks from Celts, just in case was no re-strats.
Anyhow its a fun game , I should be starting my SS soon .

16??- Democracy-Discoveries 2 turns

Mongols 2 cities , French 2 , Babilonians 3 ( just conquered Babylon ), Americans 4 , Celts 1.

Destroyers approaching USA-

Bravo Uruwashi! The joy of Civ2 is the ability to create an objective and then make it happen - Peaster will probably land in 450AD for the green star, but for the pleasure of the game you are the king!

Thanks Grigor....But I feel more like a peon than a King.
Civ II is probably one of the most fascinating games ever created.
The beauty is that none of us will ever master it on a whole.
To do it we have to do it on our own and also as a team.
Wonder if the real world could ever be like that.....
After the creation of CIV II over a decade ago , we still find new ways to accomplish the end goal.
I will never be on the same level as Peaster, Elephant , Lafayette, Oedo and many other players all over the world....If I have to rank myself , I will say that I can play on the NBA as the back up guy , but I will be just another player, that makes the game better.... but IF I can to add a grain of input to the game and make it better, its is great.
I remember the night that Michael Jordan scored 69 points and a rookie scored 1 point , after the game he said ...." YES it was nice to score 70 points between Michael and me "...
Thats the way I feel ...

I played it just for fun and ended in 1361.

After about 800 AD I had 1 to 2 adv. per turn (even without purple ;) ). I just figured out that playing Civ 2.42 is so much easier than the Gold Edition - so I learned something in the end :)

Nice game Merlin Pilgrim,

I find this an hard one because the terrain is difficult (lots of hills and plains).
I'm close to 1000AD and the techs are still not coming very quick. Don't know if it will change to the end of the game. But landing before 1400 is probably to difficult this time. The biggest problem I had in the beginnen till know was finding the right citysites.

1361 is awesome Merlin Congratulations.
I am just a bit older and very stagnant ...
I have 4 rules..
A) Do not lose any miltary units..or as little as I can ...In fact hate losing any units...
B) Have all 28 wonders regardless of the paramters of the game
c) PLay the game in Democracy ...its is tough...but Ilike the challange.. :)
D) Land a massive 40,000 SS
I know you dont get any extra points by achiving A , or C... but thats the way I allways play the game
I dont know if its any easy on Gold edition or Civ 2.42..In fact I have no idea what I have been playing on the last 10 years.!!!!..
I do play the game because I love it just like you....
I dont care about green stars, or blue stars....I am happy to play CIV II!
Im happy to be part of a fascinating Game and enjoy it and see guys like you and Peaster..and Elephant.. etc ...going for the Medals.
Like I post it before ...........Iam glad to be part of the NBA

Uuups - thanks, Uruwashi.
As I said, I just played for fun and didn't think it to be a very good result.
Anyhow. It looks like, we are playing in a similar way.
1.) I hate loosing units as well ;)
2.) Of course I had all the wonders.
3.) I didn't play demo all the way through. I find it easier to go for demo asap, rb SoL and change to Fundy for 20 turns or so until I got 2 or 3 trade routes and market places in the most important cities. After that I change to Demo as well.
4.) I landed a massive one.
The score was a bit poor anyway. My civ hasn't been that big - about 68 Mio and 57 cities. But also only 45 military units ;)

What I did was building SSC on (34,4)3 and delivered any caravan to that city. That gave a much better bonus than delivering on demand on the continent.

Most of the time I rushbuilded Caravans apart form some dips here and there and some infrastructure in rich cities. Twice I lost a city to barbs which I took back the next turn. The second time it gave me 8 NON-Partisans

It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it once again. Thanks a lot to the GOTM-Team!!!

I haven't played Civ2 almost for 5 years. Really went down on this one.
Barbarians attacked my coastal cities every 3 turns, all AIs sneak attacked me and in the end I only got techs every 15 turns...
I then decided to turn on cheat mode and destroy the world rather than to play on

Above the first part of my log. The rest will follow as soon as I have finished my log. This game was harder to play then usual. Finding good city spots cost me lots of turns to get to space. I also choose the SSC-site wrong. I should have placed it on an other island instead at the big island. However the game learned me a lot for future games.
