Hmmm, that variation of the word isn't in the autocensor....

Welcome to CFC :)

Now to the questions:

1. I always use Republic. Some people use Monarchy if they're planning a lot of war soon, and if you have a really large empire, go for Communism.

2. No, it's the worst apart from Despotism. Avoid it at any cost :p

3. Despotism => Republic.

4. Republic. I used to like Democracy too, but people and experiance convinced me to change my mind. You get a little less corruption, but you get much more War Weariness (your people get unhappy when you're at war). Also, sometimes the corruption reduction is not even worth the Anarchy, unless you have a really large empire, in which case Communism is probably better.

I hope it helps you a little, please ask if you need any more advice. :)

If you are not religious and why would you be, you should not even research Demo. It is an option tech that you do not need. You do not want to go into anarchy twice.

Anyway by the time you get Demo, you don't need it. Do not worry about corruption, just turn those places into specialist farms.

The corruption is quite low, it's lower than in Depotism and Monarchy.

War Weariness is manageble with the lux slider, only half of the Demo's unhappiness and unlike in Demo you can't get overthrown into Anarchy.

It has some unit support (I think 1 per town, 2 per city, 4 per metro, but I'm not sure). Although units over the support limit cost twice as much to maintain as in other governments, it works out better in Rep unless you have a vast army sitting around, and that's a bad thing. Either use it or don't build it at all.

And the part I like the most, it has a commerce bonus: every tiles that's already producing at least one gold produces one more. Since all your tiles should have a road, you can get as many more gpt as you have citizens, which makes for a much stronger economy.

In fact, it is a good idea to get republic as fast as possible.

I often research like this:
Alphabet --> writing --> code of law --> philosophy --> republic. Then I trade for the lower end techs I skipped with the other civ's

I know, I know, if you switch to republic when your empire is not ready you will be worse off than when you where in despotism.
So when I say "switch as soon as possible" I mean of course that you make sure your empire is ready for it as soon as possible.

If all goes well you can revolt at the inter-turn, when your research for republic is complete and the game asks you if you would like to switch. This way, your inter-turn counts as one turn of anarchy, so you basically remove one turn from your anarchy.
Well, it might not always go this well, but that's the theory anyway.

The main problem with democraty is not that it is worse than republic, but that the improvements over republic are not worth the efford of getting there.
( But if at some late game stage you somehow find yourself in a non representetive government, and you absolutely need to switch, and you somehow just happen to have demo, then by all means, considder choosing demo over republic...)

I
oh so thats why i get repeated anchery

1)I usually use Democracy, as I think it is the best government
2)I avoid it like the plague
3)I usually go Despotism/Monarchy/Democracy
4)I prefer Democracy. I prefer short blitzkrieg style wars so the WW really isn't too big of an issue most of the time, and I hate the 2 gold per unit rule in Republic.

1. I love Democracy; my economic growth is prodigious.
2. I have very little experience with fascism.
3. Typically Despotism -> Republic -> Democracy. Occasionally a quick stint in Monarchy before Republic if I'm religious, but even then only if I really need something better than Despotism and Republic is not yet a viable option. Communism if war-weariness becomes a problem or is expected to become a problem, or if I have a huge empire.
4. I prefer Democracy, but I seem to be in the minority.

Yes! You are! Back to your corner! :whipped:

I used to be a fan of Demo, but the long anarchy late in the game is bothersome. Really, the only plus Demo has over Republic is slightly lower corruption, and faster worker speeds. I can deal without the faster worker speeds, and the corruption difference is negligible.

Well, the corruption difference with Demo is something on the order of adding a courthouse everywhere - it's not small.

There are other benefits - while you get no free units, unit cost is 1 gpt, while under republic it's 2.

Worker speed is very useful for big jobs like railing and cleaning pollution.

That said, I only switch if I'm A) religious or B) are in a fast research game where I can run a lot of research with scientists during the anarchy, and not always then.

Monarchy for conquest games, republic otherwise. Am going to try out feudalism for a 100K game. Never have used fascism.

Granted, it's been a long time since I've been in Demo. I don't recall all that much of a differece. I'll have to give it a try next time I play a religious civ.

1. Republic.
2. No. Never use Fascism. How on Earth did you get that through the auto-censor btw?
3. Despotism >> Republic.
4. Republic.

1. republic
2. fascism stinks
3. despotism to republic
4. I hate republic, but it still better than demo for all non-religious civs. I actually wanted to play a commie or a monarch, but republic is just better.

1. Throughout most of the game, Republic
2. I use Fascism a lot, if I can widthstand the Anarchy, and if I'm waring a lot (Although, I usually Mobolize just before to make up for the lost production).
3. Despotism ->Republic (-> Sometimes Fascism)
4. I used to use Democracey, but now I think that the Republic is MUCH better.

1. I like Monarchy. Unit Support. Yay! (and I can live with the corruption)
2. Fascism is Ok, but not the best. The only real benifit is that workers are at 200% efficiency.
3. I go from Despotism -> Monarchy
4. Republic generally.
