Special rules:
We must win by conquest.
We must not get a tech from the Great Library

Settings:
Map: 250x250 Archipelago
AI: All 30 opponents
Civ: Ottomans
Archipelago
70% water
No Barbs
Emperor

Standard AW: Must declare war as soon as we have contact with no trades, but we can look at our opponents, their techs, etc.

Roster:
Greebley
markh
ThERat
Commando Bob
Northern Pike
There is room for one more - Experience: an AWE game or deity win would be fine.

Played the first start we got and played 25. Next player can play 15.

Went for Warrior code first
Built Warrior, Spear, Barracks Spear
Meet Japan in 3150 BC and declare war. Killed their warrior on defense in 3050 BC.

Notes:
Met Japan from the direction of the cows where the woods starts.
There are two cows (one is under warrior) A really good town spot.
The Worker will finish his chop in 2 turns.

We should discuss the next tech: I was thinking Ironworking would be best.
I think we will want a third Spear before the Settler because we will get the Japanese initial units soon and I think just one in the new town would be a risk we don't want to take.

lurker's comment: Just a question here, what do you guys do about the massive save files? I have filled up about 41 Megabytes of my allotted 50 mb space and to continue my participation in SGs, I may need an alternative way to post my saves. Do I need to find somewhere else to host my saves, or can I appeal to someone here to get more space?

That kind of site (free file sharing, not just pictures) could be useful in a lot of ways.

Lurker:

I just delete some after the game is long over. In the GR series, if you are more than 2 games past them, I would delete them. If it is a one time game, a year is plenty of time.

If you are pinched for space then be more liberal in dumping them.

A good-looking start. :goodjob:

Does the BG just NE of the northern cow count as a river tile, or does the river miss it as the screenshot suggests? If it is a river tile, then presumably our second city should go there. If it isn't, then depending on tactical circumstances we might have to risk breaking CxxC and found on the river BG just NW of the warrior, to get a second town that can reach +5 food in despotism without a cultural expansion.

Lurker comment: I don't see why the next town wouldn't go directly south of the mountain--on a river, not wasting a BG, and picks up one cow quickly. From there, towns could easily go SE of the warrior (on the coast), and W-NW of the warrior. Those would all be CxxC and have no rivers interfering.

A city on that site wouldn't be able to use the second cow, which would badly reduce our options. In a hard game one wants really strong cities which can give some of their prime tiles away when that's most efficient, not just good cities. The wasting-a-BG concern is overrated when there are plenty of BG around anyway, and the city is on a river so it'll easily reach size seven and get the lost shield back.

Good I didn't play, yet. I thought of something like this :

I am not sure whether you can consider NP's site on the river. It touches the river at the tip of the corner only. :dunno:

6. 1910BC
though there are 2 warriors nearby, send worker to road cow
settler also sent that direction

7. 1870BC
kill 1 of the warriors

8. 1830BC
it's a bit tricky but we should be able to plant a city and protect the worker
though some warriors are around

9. 1790BC
there are 3 warriors around but we should be fine, defeat 1 of them
exploring warrior spots incense, a second lux is great

IT Japanese suicide yes another warrior

10. 1750BC
found 3rd city Bursa and start walls
kill the last Japanese warrior but redline the archer

we need more workers of course, suggest to insert one soon

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the fortified warrior is ours. I fortified him for healing and forgot to unfortify him in the last turn.

We should be on a fairly big island with a second lux available.
