Graphical Dilemma

The graphics packages I'm using to edit my version of C3C aren't very advanced ( MS Paint and a freeware programme I picked up called 'Ultimate Paint' ) and as my build unit and civ colours have gone a bit off I'm wagering that something has been lost in the translation to and from pcx files, probably from the pallete.

If anyone knows enough about the civ3 pallette settings to be able to tell me where I've gone wrong, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Zipped copy of units32 attached.

( To explain what I mean by 'off a bit' the units build list in the city shows a pink background to it and my Romans which I set as White are being set by the game to Green ).

You can't use paint for the graphic in this game, you need to be able to mod the palette (as you guessed  ), most people here use Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. zulu9812 has made a huge units32 file that contains almost all units, you could check that out. :)

The pink background suggests a transparency issue. Civ 3 always uses the last 2 colours (2 to be safe) in the palette for transparency. These colours are usually lime green and IIRC magenta. You might have edited the order of the palette in some way leaving the magenta and green in a different position.

Zulu's file sounds like a good bet. Any ideas where I can get it? I found a copy on GIDustin's site but according to Winace it's corrupt ( I think - my copy of winace is in German which I don't speak ).

Edit - Managed to find it, managed to download it but it's only for PTW! :(

Any ideas on a Freeware program that allows you to mod the pallette colours?

Check my sig for the file, but I'll be bringing out a new file soon. It'll actually be a truncated version, with just the units made by Kryten, Kinboat, utahjass7, riptide, Bebro and wyrmshadow, as well as the unit icons from Steph Mod, DtP, Pentagenesis and SOE. This will include a list ;) Once that's out, I'll then add units from other sources.

only 30 days , 3 month ago (maybe more) I was downloading a 60 days trial version from jasc

but PSP8 is cheap at the moment, so I bought it a few weeks ago on amazon, I cannot work without it now

Unless you use Photoshop, in which case it is always the first two colors.

i don't knwo which program you mean, but I use 3 different graphical programs and in all there are the last two colors of the palette (in some files the last 3) the transparency-color (sometimes #00FF00 & #FF00FF and sometimes #C800C8 & #FF00FF)
