Graphics bug out of nowhere

Hi civfanatics, I need your help please:)

I had not played CIV5 G&K for a about 6 weeks. Upon realising this shocking fact I thought I'd best load up and start a new game. Evrything looked exactly the same until the map had loaded.

What I was met with was a massive game ruining graphics glitch which my mediocre PC knowledge cannot find a fix for. The issue is the game loads with huge lines and blocks surrounding any animation. Units, cities, resources, improvements, basically anything that has moving graphics has several lines emminating from it, moving across the screen and turning an impressive looking PC game into a real minger.

I of course did what anyone would do, update everything for graphics card and drivers, uninstall the entire game from steam and re-install after all otehr updates had been done. Still the same issue. My system is pretty new and handled 1000+ hours upto March 2013 with near perfect gaming. Nothing else has been added to my system apart from a football manager update.

I did not see any recent updates and certainly no one else seems to have the same issues. I hope someone can help but if this is all too vague then I will try and get some screen shots and post them.:goodjob:

Here is a copy of the file. I could only get a screenshot on directx9 but will get some more later

You might want to try changing your video options to lower settings. Is your problem similar to those described in this thread?

I saw the white lines thread but didn't seem half as bad.

more screenshots. I tried putting all graphics settings to their lowest but makes no difference. These sceen shots are from old save files showing that the new graphics error is not based on new saves. The scenario save file was from just after G&K so I have played 100's of error free games since then

Perhaps your graphics card is overheating. Do you have a utility that can monitor its temp? Perhaps you can open the PC's case and blow out any dust. If the graphics card has its own fan, make sure that it spins freely. Also reseat the card.

Thanks for your help on this. I took the PC apart this weekend and got rid of all the dust, reseated the graphics card and checked the settings. No improvements I'm afraid and still the same graphics issue.

My have to just stop playing CIV as can't afford to get an engineer to look at it. Hope I will be able to get it fixed by the new DLC.

Sorry to hear that you're still having problems. I'll move this thread to the Tech Support forum. Someone there might have more advice.

These are artifacts. They most likely have to do with a dying/overheating videocard. Do you have the problem in other games as well?

no, no issues on any other game, programm or application on the PC. Saving for an engineer to have a look as tried everything I can with my meager skills. Just means a month on the PS3 rather than PC

I think we had a case here where issues like that were driver related, and could be fixed with another version.

Usually artifacts like this point to a hardware problem, correct.

The driver could be corrupted. One may want to delete it under windows programs in control panal. Reboot the computer. Then download and/or re-install the graphics drivers.
