Josef Stalin Animated Leaderhead v 1.0

Made By: ccm01

Description:
This modification replaces Catherine with Josef Stalin as the leader of Russia. Only the PCX and FLC files have been changed. If you desire to use this modification, you will have to edit the civ3mod.bic yourself to change the Russian leader's name to Josef Stalin. The inspiration for this came from the warm reception my Adolf Hitler modification received. Like that one, the facial expression changes are very subtle, although noticable. I also opted to not make modifications to the images to represent the four different time periods in the game (this will come later as I become more motivated).

Installation:
Please back up your files before using this. If you blow up your machine after installing this, don't blame me (as you were advised to back up your files)

To use, simply unzip and copy the contents of the unzipped folders into the corresponding folders in the Civilization III\Art directory (i.e Stalin\Advisors\CA_all.pcx to ...\Civilization III\Art\Advisors) and say "Yes" to overwrite the existing files.

Hope you enjoy.

Sorry about the fact that the briefcase is now disabled. I keep exceeding my bandwith constraints at the free sites. Does anyone have the ability to host these for me?

Otherwise, I will have to find a pay site to do it (and I don't know how crazy I am about doing that).

thanks,
ccm01

I use Adobe Photoshop 6.0 for the image editing and Jasc Animation Shop 3.0 for the animations. The real trick is to find a suitable image to begin with. Additionally, you can only work with 256 colors. It isn't that hard if you have the proper software, just a bit time consuming.

As far as site hosting goes, I have a new site up. It doesn't have the files to download yet (they will hopefully be up later tonight or early tomorrow morning), but it gives you an idea of what I will be working on next.

You can get to it here:

thanks again for the interest in my projects

Sorry for my absence, but my deployment in the Persian Gulf got so bad, I couldn't even access the internet anymore... well, I'm back stateside now, so I'm getting caught up.

Thanks for all the GREAT work you've done... Stalin is a much appreciated effort!

Thanks as always!

I know you have the work that inspired yours in the form of Napoleon.... but I noticed the other author left out about five files (two FLICs and three PCX files, including the two for the Civilopedia).

Any chance you could "finish" his work on Napoleon? I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you touched it up a bit!?!?!?!

Hey, actually Wolfshanze, I think ccm01 may be going one step further, since I see Napoleon's name on his list of "to be done". Don't want to speak for ccm01, but he may be planning to do a brand new set.

ccm01, thanks for all three so far. Your work is fantastic. You are the Dark Sheer of leaderheads (or maybe he's the ccm01 of units?). :goodjob:

I am actually planning on doing a similar Napoleon of my own (although not right away since I am still trying to finish up the World War II era leaders first).

Again, thanks for the interest in my project and the kind words about my graphics and my site.

Franklin Roosevelt is now available on my site.

enjoy.

Yeah, well I just figured since 99% of the work on Napoleon was already done, that polishing up the last few missing files wouldn't take much work (I'd do it myself, but I lack graphical talent).

Good to hear you will be getting around to Napoleon yourself. I really love what you did with Hitler and Stalin (I have both on my system). So FDR is now around, eh?

"The only thing we have to fear is... fear itself!"

That's great (I just watched Pearl Harbor with my girl last night too... how odd).

P.S.
I think you forgot the link to FDR (but I was able to make an educated guess as to what his page was!)

Wolfshanze, here you go...

Update to Depression's Fine Napoleon Mod:

Depression's Napoleon Mod was missing the following files:

"...\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Races\FranceLarge.pcx"
"...\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Races\FranceSmall.pcx"
"...\Art\leaderheads\JO.pcx"
"...\Art\Flics\Jo_01.flc"
"...\Art\Flics\Jo_02.flc"

By community request, I have filled in the gaps, so to speak, and made the missing pcx files available for download here. For the flc files, the solution is the following:

1. Copy the following files from the originally downloaded Napoleon Mod:

"...\Art\Flics\Jo_c01.flc"
"...\Art\Flics\Jo_c01.flc"

2. Rename the copy of "...\Art\Flics\Jo_c01.flc" to "...\Art\Flics\Jo_01.flc"
3. Rename the copy of "...\Art\Flics\Jo_c02.flc" to "...\Art\Flics\Jo_02.flc"

enjoy

Just wanted to remind people that they might want to edit the text the leaders say in negotiation. Can't express how unsettling it is to hear that Winston Churchill is late for his milk-bath, or Stalin wondering whether I just came by to admire his beauty ;)

Hey CCM... thanks a bunch for finishing up Napoleon! That was great! Now I can include them on my hand-picked leaders....

Napoleon,
Hitler,
Stalin....

I'm happy as a clam with all these dictators to crush!

thanks for all the good work....but just asking why is stalin files so big compared with the rest !!!

I believe the Stalin file is so much bigger due to the way I created the base image (my selection of the background scene in conjunction with the way I made it). I have reanimated it about 20 times with no significant reduction in file size.

It is driving me nuts and I keep looking at reducing the file size like some obsessive compulsive freak...

I'll post it if I can reduce the file size in any way...

Anyways, thanks for the interest in my work...

Leave them as they are. They make that good old Firaxian humour even funnier. I found it disturbing enough that Catherine in her grandmotherly state would wonder whether you just came by to admire her beauty. Now if it were younger Catherine, I'd definitely see sense in those words (if I get motivated enough and find the time, I might have a shot at making an animated leaderhead for Catherine in her young, beautiful state).

Although some editing of the dialogue may be required for the Napoleon leader-head. I just can't imagine the great Napoleon Bonaparte blurting out religious claptrap and referring to his empire as "Holy" France. Firaxis didn't even make the religious claptrap that Joan blurts out any bit funny anyway.
